After a week back from the high-stakes event of the Foundation Accords' ratification, my mind was still replaying every intense detail-the speeches, the tension, the unlikely alliances. I'd barely had a moment to process it all before being swept into relentless training sessions. By the time I was told to report to Alpha-9 HQ, I was ready for something tangible, something that felt like action. But I wasn't expecting this kind of mission.
When I walked into the briefing room, Meda was already there, looking at ease but with an intensity in her eyes. Beside her stood Ji-Hu Choe-Hyun Ho, as most knew her, though she was officially labeled as SCP-953. She looked on edge, shifting uneasily, her eyes darting from Meda to me, as if already sensing the weight of what was coming.
Meda opened the briefing in her usual composed manner. "Iris, Ji-Hu, your next mission is a joint assignment with our partners from the Korean Foundation division." She handed me a thick dossier. Its cover bore both the Global Occult Coalition's insignia and the Foundation's seal. "Our main objective," Meda continued, "is to investigate and contain SCP-031, which has been exhibiting increased activity in Korea. But that's not all." She paused, looking directly at Ji-Hu.
Ji-Hu's expression tightened, as if she already knew what was coming. "This operation," Meda went on, "will involve collaboration with Dinodon's Hand, the Korean branch of the Serpent's Hand." A tense silence fell over the room. Ji-Hu's jaw clenched, her knuckles whitening as she tightened her fists. Her voice came out raw, barely above a whisper. "왜 하필 그들이죠?" (Why them?) Meda didn't break eye contact with her. "This mission isn't just about containing SCP-031 or coordinating with Beyond Entropy. It's about facing what you left behind. Ji-Hu, you need to reconcile with Hoya... and Clementine."
I watched as Ji-Hu's carefully guarded facade started to crumble. Her shoulders sank, her gaze drifting downward as if the weight of her past was pressing down on her. "나는... 준비가 안 됐어요." (I... I'm not ready.) Meda's voice softened, but her tone was resolute. "It's time, Ji-Hu. Hoya is walking down a dangerous path-one that you know better than anyone. If there's any chance to mend this, it has to happen now. Clementine deserves to see her mother trying to change." She cast a brief glance at me. "And Iris will be there to ensure no one gets hurt."
Ji-Hu looked up, desperation flickering in her eyes as she sought some escape, some other option. I could feel the silent years of regret and guilt weighing on her. She swallowed hard and muttered, "알겠어요." (Fine.) Her tone was resigned, heavy with reluctance. "가겠어요." (I'll go.) Trying to break the tension, I grinned and clapped her shoulder. "Come on, Ji-Hu. What could go wrong?" Her eyes snapped to mine, a haunted look flashing across her face. "다... 모든 게 잘못될 수 있어요." (Everything... everything could go wrong.)
