After a long chat with my sister and a chilly walk around the neighborhood, I was left alone with my thoughts. Sitting in front of the piano I tried my best to let them out with my music, but I was stuck. I wanted things to start happening, now. But they weren’t!

“Hey babe,” a soft voice whispered in my ear, a kiss placed just on its tip sending shivers down my spine.

“Hi,” I smiled, turning to see Aston sitting next to me.

“You ok?”
“Just thinking,” I smiled.

“About?”
“The last bit of my song,” I shrugged, “I haven’t quite got the inspiration I’m looking for yet.”
“You’ll find it,” Aston said, “I’m sure you will.”
I leant forward and gave him a little kiss, my hand holding his gently. “Love you.”
“Love you too babe,” he said, “Now how about dinner?”
“Give me twenty minutes,” I told him, “And I’ll be ready.”
“Perfect.”

I ran upstairs and changed into a woolen sweater dress and some tights, slipping on my tall boots and grabbing a coat. Aston came up at one point to swap his top for a different one, telling me he’d called ahead at a place in town. After a bit of a drive we pulled up at the restaurant, Aston leaving his car with the valet as we went inside.

“Do you want a boy or a girl?” I asked as we sipped champagne and looked over the menu.

“Jess…” Aston sighed, “You’ve got to stop obsessing about this.”
“But… Don’t you want a baby?” I asked him.

“You know I do,” Aston replied, “It’s just not good to be obsessing so much about it. Let it happen as it will. We have no power or control over the situation, so why do we just enjoy the ride?”
“I guess,” I sighed, “I’m just impatient.”
“I know you are,” he grinned, turning to order our meals as the server came back.

“Answer me though…” I said.

“Girl or boy?”
“Yeah.”

“Does it matter?” he asked, “As long as they’re healthy, I’ll have any baby.”

“That’s a very sweet, very cliché answer,” I giggled.

“So what do you want?”

“Boy first,” I said, “And then a girl later.”
“Wow, we’re already talking about later?” Aston teased.

“It doesn’t hurt to look ahead,” I shrugged.

“No it doesn’t,” Aston agreed, “We’re gonna have a huge family.”
“I don’t know about huge,” I said, “But there’ll be lots of love. After everything that’s happened I just want a happy ending.”
“It’s only the beginning though,” Aston said with a broad smile, his hand reaching across the table and squeezing my own.
“Truth.”

We ate our meals, chatting about the upcoming holidays. It was only a few weeks before Christmas, almost an entire year since my crash. It was crazy to think about everything that had happened, but I liked the attitude that it was never too soon to start thinking ahead. I wanted to put the crash behind me once and for all.

“Ready to head home?” Aston asked. He’d already paid and we were just sitting there finishing our drinks.
“Let’s do it.”

He helped me up from my seat, holding my hand tightly in his own as we went to go get the car. It had gotten quite cold outside so I snuggled close to him as we waited for the car to pull up, Aston’s hand moving to around my shoulders.

“I think it’s gonna snow,” he whispered.

“Well hopefully it waits till we get home,” I told him.

“You sure you don’t wanna come to LA?” he teased, “The sun will be out there.”
“Don’t tease!” I laughed, swatting his stomach as the car pulled up.

We got in the car and Aston revved the engine, ready to head home. Tiny little flakes of snow started to fall as we got halfway there, Aston’s hand holding mine warmly in his own as he drove, silence hovering between us.

“We should use the fire place,” Aston said when we pulled into the garage, “It’s the perfect night for it.”

“Ok,” I said, “You get it ready and I’ll make a hot drink for us.”
“Pajamas first,” Aston said, dragging me up the stairs.

I took some of his sweats and a t-shirt and changed into them, slipping on a hoodie before heading down to the kitchen to get some hot chocolates together while Aston messed around with the fireplace. It was a gas one, so really we just had to turn a nob and then light the fire, but we’d hardly ever used it.

“Got it!” Aston shouted from the front room, just as I came through with the drinks.
“Ohh it’s lovely,” I grinned, sitting down on the sofa next to him and passing over a drink.

We sat and cuddled for a while, watching the flames dance as the snow started to fall harder and harder outside. It was the perfect cozy evening in, just the two of us.

When our drinks were done we shoved the coffee table to the side and sprawled out on the floor in a pile of blankets we’d dragged down from upstairs. We’d decided that we wanted to camp out in front of the fire until the early hours of the morning, letting it slowly die down and flicker as we lay together.

“I’m hot,” I mumbled after a while, sitting up and peeling off the hoodie I was wearing.

“Here let me help,” Aston said, pulling my t-shirt off too. I rolled my eyes in the darkness as his hands danced across my bare body, pulling me on top of him as his lips brushed against my collarbone.

“I was only going to take my hoodie off,” I scolded, straddling his lap and looking down at him.

“You don’t need anything right now.”

“You’re incredibly cheeky husband,” I smiled, pulling his top off too. I leant down and pressed my lips against his, my fingers finding his and linking together.

We took our time, pressing kisses against every inch of each other’s bodies and slowly pulling off our remaining garments. Twisted around in the pile of blankets, we made love with the fire roaring behind us, our hearts beating fast and the love rising between us.

“Ast…” I sighed, as I reached climax and my body clung tight to his.
“Hmm…” he mumbled, one of his hands coming up to stroke a piece of hair out of my face as he pulled himself out of me. I was sweaty but I didn’t care, I was with the love of my life.

“I really fucking love you,” I whispered, pulling him back on top of me and pressing another kiss against his lips.
