“You got all your stuff?” I asked Aston as I sat at the foot of the stairs several weeks later.
“I hope so,” he replied, pulling me up carefully, “You sure you don’t wanna come?”
“Don’t make me feel guilty,” I pouted, “You deserve some time away with the boys.”
“I’d much rather spend time away with my wife.”
“Ast…” I groaned, “You’re not helping!”
“Sorry!” he smiled, pulling me in to his arms, “Just gonna miss you.”
“I’m gonna miss you too,” I told him, “Now promise me you’ll have a really good time?”
“Impossible…”
“Aston!” I scolded, pinching his earlobe.
“Ow!!!”
“I better get at least one drunk phone call from you,” I told him, “It’s been like eleven months and you’ve hardly had a proper night out. And don’t even start trying to say you don’t want to because we both now how much you love a night out.”
“Fine Jess, I’ll have a smash up,” Aston said dejectedly, a cheeky smile on his face as he looked down at me, “If you insist.”
“I bloody well do.”
“And you’ll be sufficiently occupied while I’m away?”
“Julia is staying, remember? More than a handful.”
“True,” Aston said, kissing the side of my head, “Now promise you’ll give me a call if anything comes up.”
“I promise.”
“And I mean anything…”
“Aston, your car is here,” I said with a slight giggle.
“I’m just worried.”
“You’re such a worrier,” I laughed, kissing him lightly on the lips.
“Come on, give me a proper one,” he said, pressing his lips fully on mine and wrapping me up in his arms. A loud honk from outside indicated that his driver wasn’t going to wait much longer so he begrudgingly let me go, waving goodbye and shouting ‘I love you’ as he headed off to LA for the week.
“Now… what to do?” I mused, lying lazily on the couch. To be honest I was exhausted. I’d been back into the teaching thing for a few months now, but I didn’t remember it being this tiring. All I wanted to do was laze around with a cup of tea and a stack of DVDs for the whole week.
But then the doorbell rang… Julia shouting from the front step.
“Damn,” I muttered, dragging myself off the sofa and pulling the door open.
“Sisters week!!” she shouted, pulling me in for a hug.
“Jules, calm down!”
“I’m excited to spend some time with my baby sister, jheeze!!”
“That’s great, but you don’t have to shout,” I sighed.
“What’s your problem?” Julia asked, dropping her bag on the floor, “Aston’s been away for like half an hour and you’re already a moany bitch?”
“Jules!”
