Ryan's POV
The only sound was something like rocks sliding down a cliff. I expected a sword to come down on me and pierce my throat but nothing came. I opened my eyes and gazed around, the wall of TNT had exploded, leaving a major hole in the roof that I fell through. I sat up and looked around, expecting to see someone or something. My most hopeful sight was Rune, but he wasn't here. There was no way an explosion had killed him. No, he would have escaped.
I saw a paper lying on the floor a foot away, I picked it up. A map? I picked it up and saw that Herobrine was right down the hall! I turned to it. Could I get to him? I might be able to at least weaken him. I looked around. There wasn't anything stopping my apart from the fact I'd lost my armour in the explosion. So after a quick search of the rooms I managed to get into a fresh set of iron armour. Having the iron touch my skin made me feel stronger. Like I had a potion.
I made my way down the hall, sword in hand. Slightly fearing what I might find on the other side. But when I came out, there wasn't anything to fear. Just an empty room. The only sound was something like feet walking against metal? The sound entered the room from a vent in the corner and I hoped something good was in there.
But, no sooner than that thought, Alex came out! My eyes widened, Alex!
"Ryan?" She asked.
"Alex?" I responded with.
"Where did you go?" She asked, "I haven't seen you since we slid down that cave to Herobrine's base. And that was ages ago!" I quickly went over the story of the volcano and Washdale, how the suppliers found me and took me to the peaceful little island. Unaware that danger and evil would follow.
"What happened to you? And where's Lyra?" I asked.
"Lyra returned to the overworld to help save a city. Me and Lyra were mostly here by chance and clues we found. First we found a letter from Herobrine, overheard some conversations blah, blah, blah." She looked around the room, seeing it was empty she turned to me. Climbing out of the vent she asked. "Where is Steve and Herobrine? They were supposed to be here!" She looked around the room again.
"I have no idea." I said quietly, but a deep laugh like the one in the volcano erupted from below. It was so alike that I even looked down to make sure there wasn't lava rising up at us. But what did happen was the floor below us opened and we fell a few blocks into an underground chamber. Herobrine was standing there, white eyes piercing us.
"So, we did make it to your little friend?" He asked, Clearly we did. I thought
"Show us Steve." Said Alex confidently. Herobrine shrugged.
"Sure thing ms. Alex." Herobrine said, then after that point the mechanism he used seemed like he spent the whole time we were traveling on it. With a single flick of a lever the wall opened, and pistons pushed Steve himself out of the small cage and pistons made fences spring up around him. I feared what the other lever would do.
"Ryan!" Steve cried, "Alex! Run! Save yourselves!"
"We aren't leaving you Steve." Said Alex with a shaky voice. I knew why. Steve was heavily scared, covered in cuts and bruises, he looked terrible and tired. I felt immense pity. Normally I would have went up and broke him out but Herobrine was standing right there. And he would blast me to ashes if I got close. Heck, he might even pull iron ingots from the ash as a prize!
"Come close and the boy dies!" Herobrine cried blasting Alex back to the wall.
"Hey!" Steve yelled attempting to lunge at Herobrine but the damned fences held him back. The poor guy!
"How would you kill him?" I asked. "I bet if you challenged him to a 1V1 head on. He would win!" I didn't mean to say that. It would probably get me killed, it just popped out. Herobrine smiled.
"If you think that's the case Mr. Valve. You're next."
"Come at me!" I said, Steve looked torn between proudness that I was rooting for him and downright terrified for my actions. Herobrine smiled, "Actually, I think I'll off you all right here!" And with that he flicked the second lever and the roof above Steve opened, lava began to pour out. Steve screamed and with the sound of an explosion me and Alex ran, for out lives.
I couldn't believe we were leaving Steve to burn! We were running through random halls, explosions following us. This whole time we were lured right into death. I bet Herobrine planned on getting to Veronica and Lyra too, maybe he would handle them later, But Herobrine wouldn't get killed by explosions. No way. Not ever. One explosion blasted us to the side, We hit the wall and it threatened to break. I heard crying and when I looked over my shoulder I saw Alex, tears running down her face. I wanted to believe they weren't there, that the heat of the nether would dry them before they escaped vey far down her cheeks. But another explosion sent us right out of the fortress and straight onto a large cobblestone cube floating in the nether. I bet this was all part of Herobrine's plan but after ghasts began shooting at us we had no choice but to mine into the resistant cobble.
Alex was still crying.
"It's ok..." I told her even though it was miles away from ok.
"No Ryan..." Alex said miserably. "St-steve." She turned to me with watery eyes, turning away from the nether portal back to the overworld.
"Don't worry, maybe he escaped." I tried to reassure her, it was true, maybe the explosions opened a path for Steve to use as an escape route.
"I loved him." was all Alex managed to choke.
