As they pull into Abuelas driveway, Evie takes a deep breath. She knows this is gonna be hard, especially for them all to say goodbye to Chris, but she knows she's doing what's right for Chris. This is what Eddie wanted and she just has to focus on that.
They get out of the truck after sharing a tender kiss with Steve. They walk hand in hand up to Abuelas, Chris is clinging to Steve as the man Carries the young boy.
Helena opens the door with a soft smile on her face.
“Hi, come on in.” Helena says Hugging Evie and kissing Chris's curls.
“Thanks for having us.” Evie says
“No problem.” Helena says as they go into the backyard where everyone is. Bobby and Athena come up to them. They each hug Evie as Athena says. “Bobby told me you want us to be the girl's grandparents and we'd be honored to.”
“Thank you, I'm glad. I just want them to have normal loving grandparents.” Evie explains
“I get that and I appreciate the opportunity, we both do. We are gonna spoil them. I already talked to my captain and when you go into labor I have some time off to come out and so does Bobby. But I refuse to be called grandma, Nana it will be.” Athena says with a look of pure happiness mixed with how serious she is.
“No problem and thank you for getting the time off, , mom,” Evie says shyly.
“Anytime baby.” Athena says as she parts Evie's cheek.
They go further into the yard and talk with everyone.
“So is Hawaii as much of a paradise as they say it is?” Ramon asks.
Evie smiles bright at the thought of her new home.
“Yes, it's so beautiful and amazing. It's more amazing than I remember.” Evie says smitten with her home.
“You were there before?” Karen asks
“Yes everytime we had leave from the Navy I would go home with Steve and stay with him and his dad.” Evie says with a sad smile thinking of John.
“My dad was smitten with Evie, he adored her. They got along like a house on fire. Dad always told me to lock this one down as she's perfect and he's right.” Steve says, looking at Evie with pure love.
“Do you have any stories?” Maddie asks
“Of course. There was this one time that I came home late one night from a late night swim. I found them on the living room floor laughing like school girls drunk as can be, looking at baby and embarrassing photos of me. That's when I knew she was the one.” Steve says with pure love in his voice and eyes.
Anyone with eyes can see how much this man loves Evie. Maddie feels a pang of hurt, and jealousy as Chim doesn't even look at Maddie the same way Steve does Evie.
That's probably why Maddie was trying to ruin things for her sister. Because Maddie should be looked at that way.
“He sounds like an amazing man.” Athena says
“He was.” Both Evie and Steve say in unison.
“So how do you like your new job?” Bobby asks
“I love it more than I thought I would. If I'm being honest I wasn't sure how I was gonna like being behind a gun again, but it just comes naturally after so many years in the Navy. The teams great. I already knew Chin and Kono from my time in Hawaii before as Chin was John's partner and Kobo's Chin cousin. But Danny and Lou are great. Danny rants a lot. Especially about me and Steve being partnered up. Apparently you shouldn't pair up two ex seals. Danny has a whole range about it.” Evie says as everyone chuckles.
“So what is it that you do now?” Ramon asks
“I'm a cop, I'm on the five 0 task force in Hawaii, it's the governor's personal task force. We deal with the worst the islands has to offer “ Evie explains taking her ice tea from Athena who got it for her.
“Thanks mom” Evie says shyly.
“Is it more dangerous than firefighting?” Helena asks.
“It can be. About six months before we got pregnant we had to bust a drug ring and we were in a plane and a boogie helicopter came after us and shot it down. Steve got the brunt of the bullets as he protected me, the self sacrificing bastard. But I gave him a part of my liver as his was shot, from a stray bullet. It has its moments of being dangerous.” Evie explains.
“Did your plane crash?” Bobby asks worriedly.
Evie shakes her head as Steve says “no Evie saved us. She landed the plane on the beach.”
“You know how to fly?” Abuelas asks
“I do from my time in the Navy. I've been in that exact same position overseas, unfortunately but last time it was a missile and not bullets.” Evie explains
“Dios Mio.” Ramon says.
“How are you going to deal with a dangerous job and having three kids?” Helena asks
“I'll be off for awhile after the twins are born and Carla is coming to Hawaii to help. I can't promise I'm never gonna get hurt, but I can promise you I'll fight like hell to come back to my family. I'm good at my job, I know the risks, yes but I also have an amazing team and back up. All I can do is fight to come home.” Evie explains.
“That's all anyone can ask for.” Helena says with a soft smile.
After talking a bit more they eat and then it's roughly 9pm and they head out to get some sleep before their early morning flight. That say goodbye to everyone with the promise of pictures of the twins once they are born even Eddie's family wants pictures. Sophia and Adriana promise to visit soon as does Helena and Ramon.
Evie thinks abulea and Tia Peppa will either move back to Texas or Hawaii she's not sure but she heard them saying there's nothing left in LA but memories of what was, now.
They all head out and get some sleep. Before they know it they are on the plane going home.
Chris is sitting between Evie and Steve, Steve tells him all about the great things Hawaii has to offer. Chris turns up his nose at pineapple on pizza. But Steve swears he'll get the boy to at least try it.
They land and go to Steve's truck.
Once home they show Chris his new room.
The team out did themselves, With a marvel themed bedroom, with the name Superman painted over the bed. Evie has tears in her eyes and so does Chris.
“Thanks Bucky! And Steve! Chris says Hugging them both.
“You're welcome Superman, but our team did this. They got all the information from Steve and they did this while we were gone.” Evie says.
“Wow, thanks Steve.” Chris says Hugging the man tightly.
“No problem buddy.” Steve says with a voice thick with emotion.
They get settled in and the team comes and they all give their sympathy to Chris and Evie. Chris gets on well with Gracie and Charlie.
It's good to be home with Ohanna.
