Leidi
I stand in front of a mirror. I wear a long blue gown. It covers one shoulder and leaves the other bare. It has intricate red designs printed on it. I feel it mocking me. That I'll always be jotunn.
I brush off the thought and exit the room, and run a hand through my now washed hair. It hangs straight and smooth.
As I do that, I crash into a large man. The man remains unmoved as I fall back on my rump. "My apologies, Lady..." He trails off, not knowing my name. He grabs my hand and pulls me up.
His blonde hair reaches his shoulder and his blue eyes show confusion. He is tall and very muscular. "Actually my name is Leidi," I say. "Ah. So I call you Lady Leidi?" He jokes. "Just Leidi would be fine." "I'm Thor," he smiles warmly.
My eyes widen with shock and fear. I just bumped into the prince. "My apologies prince," I bow, "I did not recognize you." I can't help it. I am used to serving. His large hands grip my shoulders as he lifts me up.
"There is no need for that, child," he says, "you are among friends now. You need not serve anyone." His words put me at ease. I force my eyes up to his. His blue eyes search mine.
I want to tell him I'm not a child. I'm hundreds of years old. But I do not. He looks like he's 20 or 30. I look younger than I am.
His towering figure serves to remind me that I'm far too small to be a jotunn and that's why the other jotnar cast me out. Made sure that I was in a place I'd die of suffering.
I fight back tears. "Come Leidi. Odin requests your presence," I nod, following him. His cape is long and billowing. It's red. The color of blood.
I wonder if this is how I'm to dress everyday. It doesn't suit me. I enter a large room with a throne in it. Thor seems to have disappeared. Odin sits on his throne, a staff in his hand.
I bow again. It's a natural instinct. I'm beneath everyone. "Get up, Leidi," he says. I slowly get up. "I presume you know what I'm about to say?" "That I don't belong here. That I'm only here because of the queen?"
He shakes his head, "Do not think that, child. Heimdall told me everything." He pauses, studying my face before continuing, "I know you are an enemy of the jotnar. But I also know you are one of them."
I nod slowly, "They are cruel, heartless monsters. I am ashamed to hail from that accursed place." Rage builds inside of me. "You are most welcome to stay here," he says finally.
I look up, startled by his words. "Really?" I say. Small bits of joy lace my words. He nods, "You have a few hours before dinner. Until then, you are free to roam the palace, Leidi," he smiles.
It's very disarming. I thought he was not one to take in strangers. How pathetic did I look, for him to show me mercy? "Thank you, my king," I bow and exit.
