Chapter 10: Annie, Cara and the book

KATNISS POV:

One way or another my science class was all in detention at brake.

After, not paying any attention during drama, and chatting a lot with Annie I learnt some things about Cato.

Cato is part of the other popular group In School. Annie told me not to be friends with him. He seems nice so I don't know why.

But then she told me about this girl called clove, who's also in there group, and apparently she has dibs on him.

And then there's marvel and glimmer. There's both going out and are part of there group.

The school had even given their group a name. That's how popular it was. And then Annie pointed out all of them. They were all in our drama group eyeing me like I was a threat.

They were called the careers. They are all jocks. Cato is head of football. Marvel is head of wrestling. Glimmer is head of cheerleading. Clove is head of running.

And if I join any of those clubs I'm dead.

Theses are like rules you have to live by if you wanna survive in ugh school. Why can't it just be normal?

But then I remember.... I don't think there is such a thing as normal.

10 minutes till the bell. 20 minutes till I'm out this detention. It's so unfair everyone is passing notes or doodling but I put that all back in my locker beige I came here.

"Everdeen?" The teacher says.
"Yes." I reply. He glares at me so I just my answer. "Yes sir."
He nods before speaking. "Seen as your new here, it would be unfair to hold you in this detention," he glances around at the c,ass who has now started talking about me saying it's unfair.

"Silence." He orders. "You may take a friend with you." He tells me. I thanks him before walking over to my desk and picking up my bag.
"Ha." I smirk at Cato who is still there bored as ever. He looks at me with pleading eyes.
"No I am not freeing you from this detention." I laugh.

I walk to the door and the teacher is looking at me confused. He indicates for me to chose someone. I look between Peeta and Finnick. How am I supposed to choose?

"Oh I will go alone it's fine." I tell the teacher and open the door.

I take one last look behind me and Finnick and Peeta,  who look very angry, then I go out. 

Once Im outside and away from the classroom I start to regret not choosing someone from science to free as well.

This high school must have thousands of students and I don't know any. But then something catches my eye.

A magazine. This girl has it sticking out her backpack. I walk over and  grab it. She turns around shocked.

"Katniss?" She asks me. I look at the paper then at her. "Go ahead."

On the front of the magazine is a picture of when Peeta picked me up on the red carpet. He's laughing while looking at me and I'm looking at him like he is the most annoying person alive.

Then down the side of the page it has smaller photos of Annie and Tyler, Finnick and Annie, And then a silly one of me and Finnick pulling a funny face.

And the title reads 'NEW GIRL MAKES A GRAND ENTRANCE- KATNISS EVERDEEN'

That's not the best thing in the world.
"You look really nice in this photo." The girl stutters while flicker through the magazine. She stops and smiles and shows me a picture of Finnick and Peeta with Annie next to them, and me next to her.
"Oh just tones of makeup." I admit. She laughs a little. She seems nervous around me all of a sudden.
"You okay?" I ask her.
"Uh yeah sort of." She replies. "I've just p never spoken to someone so.. You know popular."
"Well I'm not popular. And just because my friends are doesn't mean they are unapproachable." She smiles at me.
"I don't want to make anyone feel nervous. So you shouldn't be." I say. Her smiles fades.
