Kc drove home and told her mom Shay
was coming over.
"Where were you?"
"I was with smalls."
"Smalls? Who the hell. Oh yeah. Duh."
"Yeah. I was with Liz mom. You know your oldest daughter. any of this starting to ring a bell?" Kc joked.
"Shut up smartass." Her mom said jokingly.
"Why did I get a call from your school saying that you weren't in dress code and mouthed off?"
"I got called to the principal's office for wearing what I have on. My uniform. But they got butt hurt because I wore skinny jeans." Kc said and put a chip in her mouth. "I proceeded to tell the principal that I had done nothing wrong. In the handbook it said its heavily recommend for girls to wear skirts and those frilly ties. It never said that we had to. So the principal wasted a good fifteen minutes of my life. He was like come here after school. And I told him no because I did absolutely nothing. That's that."
"This school needs to chill." Her mom said.
"I know." Kc said. "I don't like that guy."
Shay walked in.
"I'm home." She said.
"Hey Shay." Kc said.
"Kayce." Shay greeted her. "Hi Quinn."
"Hi Shay." Kc's mom said. "You two sit down and eat."
"Okay." They both said and sat down.
"What we eating mom?" Kc asked.
"Steak."
"Cool." Kc said. "Steak good?" She asked her best friend.
Shay nodded.
Quinn handed the girls plates with steaks on them.
The girls ate and grabbed two giant bags of pretzels and chips.
Shay grabbed peanut butter.
"I'm never gonna get used to you twos weird food combinations." Quinn said.
"Mom. Pretzels and peanut butter is where it's at. " Kc said. "Isn't that right Shay."
"Agreed." Shay said. Quinn smiled at them as they walked into Kc's room.
Kc and Shay sat across from each other.
Shay opened her bag and threw a Twinkie at Kc's face.
"Fuck yeah!" Kc said with a smile.
" I told you I'd buy you a Twinkie. Now you tell me secret now." Shay said.
"Uh. I'll tell you soon."
"How soon is soon?"
"like two minutes." Kc said and unwrapped the Twinkie. She took a bite. "Because this is difficult to talk about."
"Hints?" Shay asked her and put a handful of chips in her mouth.
"Yeah okay." Kc said. She sat and thought. "Rainbows. What do they mean?"
"They form after it rains." Shay said.
/So much for that./ Kc thought.
"Rainbows are a specific symbol for."
"I'm getting nothing kayce. Just tell me."
"I'm scared." Kc said.
"But you're Kc Hartman. You're not scared of anything."
"I am scared of one thing."
"Really. What's that?" Shay asked.
"Losing you." Kc said.
"But you wo-"
"If I tell you this you might hate me." Kc said cutting her best friend off.
"I'm never going to hate you. So you can push that thought all the way out of your head."
"Okay..." Kc said and took a deep breath. "I'm gay." She mumbled.
"What?" Shay said.
"I'm gay." Kc said.
"Oh..." Shay said.
"Say something. Please." Kc said. She felt like crying.
"You're an idiot." Shay said.
"I'm an idiot?" Kc said.
"Yes Kc. You're a huge fucking idiot." Shay said and pulled her into a hug. "I'm never gonna just stop being your best friend. You know too much. It's way too late for me to back out now."
Kc chuckled a little and ended up crying.
"You're okay kayce. I don't hate you."
/I love this girl./ Kc thought. /I'm in love with this girl/
The two laid down on Kc's bed and watched Disney movies. Shay sat up and looked at Kc.
Kc's heart sped up.
"Yes Shay?" Kc asked.
"We have to talk about this."
"what?"
"You're just. Gay!"
"I've always been gay Shay." Kc said smiling at the rhyme.
"I just wanna talk about it more."
"Oh. You're curious?" Kc asked her with an amused smile.
"Don't twist my words." Shay said. Kc smiled and paused the movie. "This is serious."
"Okay. What do you wanna know?" Kc asked her.
"When did you know that you were gay?" Shay asked. "I'm sorry if I sounded bitchy."
Kc laughed and Shay glared at her with a small smile.
"It's something that I've always known you know. But I started like realizing and questioning it when we were in fifth grade." Kc said.
"Oh." Shay said.
"You remember when you kept badgering me about Pete and I said I thought he was cute?"
Shay nodded.
"Lies."
"Oh Pete." Shay said smiling at the memory.
"One last question."
"Ask away." Kc said.
"Do you have any actual crushes?" Shay asked. Kc's face went red and her heart started beating rapidly.
"Um. N-no."
"You do! Who is it?"
"n-nobody." Kc said.
"Tell me who it is!" Shay said.
Kc thought of a person and the first person who came to her mind was.
"Mari Kaplan."
Shay looked at her with a smirk.
"You. Me. Girl talk." She said wiggling her eyebrows.
