Summer was the correct time to make the transition from middle to high school.

After all of the work was done Kc joined her father for one last fix.

"But Kc! I hate cars!"

"You're the one who wanted to come over. This is what we're doing. Right dad?"

"Right." Her father wheeled himself down the ramp that led from the kitchen to the den.

"You can watch or do girly stuff with mom."

"I don't know Kayce. I think you make one hot grease monkey."
Shay's statement was supposed to be taken as a joke but Kc turned extremely red.

Kc heard her father cackle at the joke.

"You're funny." Kc said to her friend.

"Let's go Kc. Your Silverado is waiting."
Kc smiled and sat on his lap as he rolled into the garage.
Shay followed and opened the garage.

Kc stood up and got everything ready.

"Alright. Pop the hood."
She got in the car and popped the hood.
She opened it and smiled.
"What's wrong?"

"I'm gonna have my truck."

"Yes you are. Let's get to work."

Small skip.

Kc and Shay were riding their skateboards down the street.

"You still into Kyle?" Kc asked.

"Yeah."

"Why?"

"He's nice and funny. And I don't know. I just like him."

"He's not nice. He's not funny. He's a rude pervert. And he's gonna be a rude pervert forever."

"Are you jealous?"

"Of who?" Kc asked with a scoff.

"Him. My attention has averted from you to him and you don't like that. Don't you worry your pretty little head baby. You're always gonna be my number one."

"He's just not good enough for you Shay."

"Who is good enough then?"
/me. I mean what?/

"I see you with someone who's a little older. More mature. I don't really see you dating your twin. Like I think that guy wouldn't be much of a reader. He should appreciate literature but not obsess. He should be able to take care of himself. I don't know."

"That guy sounds kind of like you." Shay said.

"I'm only a few months older than you."

"But you are a lil more mature."

"Really? Aw thanks." Kc smiled.

"I do kinda want a guy like you. That'd be like endless fun and happiness."

"You could just date me." Kc joked.

"Really?"

"I don't know."

"Oh. Okay."
/that was awkward./

They kept skating until they saw a gigantic house.

"Woah." Kc stopped and Shay did the same.

"Who do you think lives there?"

"Someone rich."

"Oh shit. Someone's coming. Go go go."
The two skated back as fast as they could.

Kc only caught a glance of the dirty blonde hair.

"Fuck. Ditch the boards. We'll have better luck running." Kc said and they got off and ran.

"So kayce."

"Yeah?"

"Are we going to ignore your little incident at Pete's party?"

"Most likely yeah."

"We gotta talk about it."

"Technically we don't."

"But we do."

"What happened?" Liz asked.

"Kc had he-"
The brunette covered her best friend's mouth.

"Come on. You can tell me. I'm cool."

"Nope. Bye now."
Kc dragged her friend to her room and closed the door.
"If we talk about it do you swear that you'll never do that again?"

"I swear."

"Fine." Kc sighed. "Long story short I didn't bring a present cause I barely know the kid. At first I had no idea why he invited us but then I asked him what he wanted." Kc blushed out of embarrassment. She ran her hand through her hair. "He said all he wanted was to kiss me. I offered if I could just run out and buy him something. Of course he said no and I thought. Why not? It's his birthday. So I stood there as he awkwardly kissed me."

"You didn't kiss back?"

"Hell no. What do I look like?"

"I'm not saying you're a hoe or anything but wow."

"From what I heard first kisses should be special and with someone you really care about. I was not gonna waste it on goddamn Pete Jenkins."

"Okay." Shay said and kissed her best friend.
Kc was confused but kissed back.
Shay pulled away and smiled.

"What was that?" Kc asked in a daze.

"Well you said first kisses should be special and with someone you cared about. Why not? I love you more than anyone in the world. And that's never gonna change."

"Aw. I love you too." Kc hugged her.
