Kc was hardly paying attention in French. She watched Shay walk to the bathroom.

/Baby come back/ she thought.
Mari was seated a row behind her silently watching.

"Okay class." The teacher said. "T-"
A loud gunshot rang out.
Everyone fell to the floor in panic.

"Shay." Kc repeated breathlessly.

"Kc. Hey. It's okay." Emily said.

"No." Kc said repeatedly. "She's not here and she doesn't have her-."
Another gunshot was heard. Kc jumped into Emily's arms. She quivered in fear.
Mari looked at Kc with concern. She was across the room now.

"Kc. Please calm down." A guy said and hugged her.

"Benny.. I can't calm down. Shay is in the bathroom and she could've... She. She could've." Kc started to get worked up. Tears fell from her eyes.

"Kc." Benny said. Kc stood and ran to the door. Mari caught her before she could do anything.

"I have to go and get her." Kc said in tears.

"Ka- Kc. Are you trying to get yourself killed?" Mari asked her.

"I can't live without her." Kc said.
Mari pulled her into a tight warm hug.
Kc was surprised by the presidents' act of affection.

"Kc. What about you?." Mari said. A person who was crying started banging on the door.

"PLEASE. LET ME IN!" The girl yelled.

"I don't care about me!" Kc said to the president. She got out of Mari's hold and opened the door.

"KC!" The teacher said. Kc picked up Shay in a hug and carried her inside of the room shutting and locking the door in the process. Shay was in tears on her best friend's shoulder.

"It's okay. I got you." Kc said.

"Kayce."

"Yes?"

"It's you." Shay said and passed out.

"We need help!" Kc exclaimed. "She got shot!"
By that time the swat team and FBI were roaming the halls. Their teacher got up and ran out quickly.
"Come on Shay. Stay with me. I love you. I love you." Kc cried. The paramedics took Shay out of Kc's grip.
"I need to be with her."she said.

"Are you her immediate family?" A worker said.

"No. But-"

"I'm sorry ma'am. "

"Put yourself in my shoes!" Kc said. "My best friend got shot twice in the back and all I wanna do is be with her."

"Fine." He said.

"Thank you so much." Kc said and ran to the ambulance. She jumped in the back and held Shay's hand.

"Peaches." She said weakly with a small smile.

"Hi sweetie." Kc said. "I'm gonna be with you all the time. Everything's gonna be okay."

"My back hurts. Bad." Shay said.

"I know honey." Kc said and Shay squeezed her hand.
"Just keep holding on sweetie. We'll be at the hospital soon."

Shay nodded. "It's you Kc."

"What's me?"

"The girl. It's you." Shay said.

"It's you too." Kc said.

"But. What about m-?"

"No. It wasn't ever Mari. It's always been you." Kc said. Shay smiled at her.
