"So." Shay said.
"So what?" Kc asked her.
"Mari huh?" Shay asked her.
"Yep." Kc said and skated ahead of Shay. She caught up with her easily.
"Spill it."
"Nah. I'm good." Kc said.
"Why?" Shay asked her.
"Cause I don't wanna. " Kc said and sped up again.
/why her of all people? Mari Kaplan?! Man. I'm in some serious shit now./
Shay caught up with her again as they arrived to her house.
"See you at school?" Kc asked her.
"You my ride?" Shay asked her.
"Always." Kc said with a smile.
"Great." Shay said. Kc stared at her best friend.
/SNAP OUT OF IT KC!/ she thought as she stopped gawking.
"Love you." Shay said.
"Love you." Kc said as Shay walked into her house. Kc backed up and skated home.
She walked into her house and grabbed a bucket of vanilla ice cream chocolate sauce and a spoon.
"Uh Kc?" Her mom asked her. Kc slowly looked at her with a mouth full of ice cream and smeared chocolate sauce on her face.
"I'm so glad I said no to a dog." She said under her breath.
"What up ma?" Kc said as she ate the ice cream.
"I'm wondering why you're sitting on my counter eating just ice cream and chocolate."
"It's hard to explain."
"You scared to tell Shay about your lady boner for her?"
"MOM!"Kc shouted and blushed.
"I'm not wrong am I?"
"You might not be but that phrasing gotta go. Like in the next two seconds. But. How did you know?" Kc asked her.
"Pft. It's just mothers intuition. We always know about crushes."
"Goddammit." Kc said under her breath. "How come I get away with all of the serious stuff?"
"What?" Her mom asked her with a crooked eyebrow.
"What?" Kc said back.
The next morning Kc put on her uniform and left the house. She picked up Shay and drove to school.
The two got out of the car and walked inside. Shay looked at her.
"Something wrong princess?" Kc asked her with a smile.
"Yes. Stop." Shay said as she slowly backed up. She took a step back in and fixed Kc's hair.
Kc moved her head back and looked at her best friend with a raised eyebrow.
"My hair is fine." Kc said.
"But just let me-"
"No Shay. My hair isn't a mess. What is your game here?"
"No game." Shay said with a side smirk as she noticed Mari Kaplan approach. Kc's heartbeat sped up as her cheeks flushed red.
"Hartman a word please." Mari said impatiently.
Kc sighed.
"You didn't."
Shay turned her around and pushed her towards the president.
"Whatcha need boss?" Kc asked her playfully.
Mari rolled her eyes at the brunette.
"I need the softball teams grades and the budget pulled Please."
