" I really think you should start packing" I tell him, it's always a persecution when people leave packing at the absolute last moment. It's ponderous.
"Why are you annoying me so much?" He says rather jeer. But I ignore it.
"Because we need to leave in two days and your suitcase is empty"
"Can you hear yourself speak?"
"And why is that question even a part of this conversation?" I ask raising my eye brow.
" Well you sound rediculous. I have 48 hours which is more that I require to pack"
" you are doing it right now" I order
"Says who?"
"Says I. Do it"
"You sound ridiculous" he says again but this time rather relaxed.
The conversation feels like it's going to where it started like pulsation. I hate it when that happens. I just decide to walk away.
"Sorry, I'll do it" he says walks up to his room.
I flash him a triumphant smile and he just rolls his eyesThe phone rings.
"Hello?" I say picking up the phone
"We need to party" it's definitely Naomi.
"Sure, Naomi" I say with a laugh
"How do you know it's me?" she asks
"Lucky guess" I say
"So Peter and I will be at your house around 6 and we'll party all night. I'm getting all the drinks so don't worry. I'll have to make sure none of us go to bed sober" she says and I can literally see her smiling. She's such a Bethany, I swear.
"Absolutely" I agree. Not.
"See you at six" she says
"Yeah. Bye" I say hanging up.I just sit on the table wondering that if Chris and Peter get the role and they are busy all day. I'll have nothing to do. It doesn't end there, he'll move on accepting new roles and I don't like the feeling of being dependent on anybody. Shouldn't I get a job?
I read an article a few days ago about a vacancy of a baker in a restaurant nearby. The working hours don't sound that bad and as I don't exactly have a college degree at the moment it'll have to do.I leave the house an hour later in search of 'Mystique Maze'. When I enter it's the lunch hours. My heart starts to beat much faster than it usually would.
I really need this job.
I enter and I see an man, maybe around his 50s sitting a reading a journal.
"Uhm... Hello. Good afternoon. " I say, timid as a doe.
"Dinner starts from six. I hope you have seen the sign outside" he says without looking up from the papers in his hand.
"uhmm..I"
"Well, I hope you have heard me fräulein" he says
"I came for the job, I saw an article a few days ago" I say rising my voice
He then shifts his gaze to me; he scans me from top to bottom from above his reading glasses.
"Which is your strongest cuisine?" he asks
"English, Irish and Scottish. I know continental and Asian as well" I say
"Qualification?" he asksHow exactly am I supposed to answer that?
"Uhm..junior high" I reply
He squeezes his eyes at me.
"How old are you, Fräulein?" he asks
"I'm seventeen" I reply
"I am sure you have no experiences in a professional kitchen before" He states the obvious.
"This is my first time." I reply
"Any experiences anywhere, at all?"
"Yeah, I cook with my mom in the kitchen" I say proudly. He chuckles at my vanity."I hope you can distinguish between the amounts of people you have to feed. You might feed five at home but you have to feed fifty here. We need a top quality chef to work our way through in this kitchen and why exactly do you think I would be interested in taking in an amateur who is only experience is cooking at home with her mom? Mystique Maze is acclaimed and we are looking for someone who can help us maintain our standards." he says
"I have the potential. How will you know my talent if you don't even give me a chance? I'm sure I'll be a valuable asset" I reply
"Look Fräulein...Uhm ?"
"Amelia" I fill in
"Yes. Fräulein Amelia this is serious stuff. This is work. You'll have to work your way to the top and you need to dedicate yourself to this throughout the work hours. We don't play around and this is not casual cooking with mommy. Now if you'll excuse me I have important things to do"
