Season 11 Chapter 78

Kurenai and Shizune fell into the pit, Kurenai grabbing Shizune to break her fall. "Huh? This was only meant for one person. Looks like one of you is gonna have to die." Kurai said, "Sick fuck." Kurenai whispered to himself, still holding Shizune, not letting her touch a single needle, "Well. I might as well explain this to you. There's 100,000 needles in this pit, 99,999 of them have a deadly poison in them, 1of them has a cure that removes the poison automatically. Since this was only meant for one person. You'll have to find your own way. Oh, yeah. Only one person can survive this. One person also has to get cured." Kurai said. Kurenai thought for a few moments, then came to a conclusion, "Shizune. I'm gonna inject all of the poisons except for one into me. I'll inject the last one into you, and then use the cure on you." Kurenai said, "But then you'll die." Shizune said, "I know. All of these say 'Infection' on them. With our luck, the one with the cure would say 'Cure'." Kurenai explained, Shizune nodded. Kurenai grabbed one needle and injected himself with it. The poison quickly took work, but Kurenai kept going.

This went on until there were only two needles left. The final poison and the cure. Weakly, Kurenai grabbed the last poison and injected Shizune, then grabbed the cure and cured her right afterwards, before setting her down and walking to the wall to brace himself, "Shit. I'm fading fast." He said, his crimson eyes flickering. Suddenly, a blade-saw attached to a mechanical arm came out of the wall and began heading towards Shizune, the saw spinning rapidly. "Shizune!" Kurenai yelled, ignoring his weakness and pain to save his wife. He ran in front of the saw, which planted into his shoulder and began cutting his arm off. Kurenai screamed in agony as his arm was cut off, the saw stopping and retracting. Blood dripped from the wound, "Kurenai!" Shizune called, running up to her injured and slowly dying husband, Kurenai was lying in the floor, breathing heavily, his skin pale from the poison. The platform they were on rose, and the huge hatch they fell through opened, returning them to their friends and family, "Kurenai! What the hell happened!?" Atem yelled, running towards Kurenai, "He sacrificed himself to save me." Shizune said softly, resisting the urge to cry, "You idiot. You were our only hope of victory here, yet you were willing to die to save someone." Atem said, "If I'm being honest, I don't think he's coming back this time. He's died bunches of times before, and he's come back each time. But not this time." Koneko said, "Yeah. I agree." Atem said, "Hey, stop talking bad about me. I'm fine." Kurenai said weakly, sitting up, "Kurenai! You're in no shape to be moving at all! You're heavily poisoned and you just lost an arm!" Shizune said, her voice filled with worry, "It's fine. I'm all good." Kurenai said, his voice fading, Shizune began crying as she hugged him tightly, Kurenai hugged her back, "Hey. I'm not going anywhere. I'm here. And I always will be. When you and I got married, I promised to protect my family with my life. Even if it meant destroying everything, as long as my family was alive, I'd give it all up. That's how much I care for you guys. I'm not gonna go anywhere. I'm right—" Kurenai said, his voice cutting off before he could say that he was here. Kurenai was dead. "He really did give it all up for his family. He was struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts, but he kept being bright and happy through it all. Just to see his family happy. Damn. He was a good man. I'm glad he was my son." Atem said, everyone's eyes widened, "What? Kurenai was your son!?" Everyone questioned, "Yeah. I kept it a secret for years, but it's true. In fact, Kurenai wasn't even a human being." Atem said, "Then what was he?" Koneko asked, "He was an artificial being I created to be a perfect fit for the ring. He was designed to be strong, that's how even before he got his powers, he could withstand intense injuries. Eventually, he slowly became human. It was when he was 19 that he grew to be a human being." Atem said, "That was the age he was whenever he fell in love with me!" Shizune said, "Yeah. Without you, Kurenai would never become a human." Atem said.

Kurai began speaking on the loudspeaker, "Stop with all the mushy talk. The man swore in his life that he'd defeat me. He's dead now. He couldn't defeat me!" Kurai said, and everyone's face turned to anger.
