I woke in the middle of the night to a rumbling stomach. 'Go back to sleep.' I mumbled to it.

You can see what sleep deprivation does to me.

No such luck. My stomach growled again and I sighed. Might a well get up now, my stomach wouldn't shut up until it was fed.

Moonlight shone through my single window, muted by the thin purple curtains.

I rolled off my bed, stretching my arms, and noticed the clock said 1:32 a.m. Great. Just what I needed after two sleepless nights.

'Don't go there.' I told myself. Best not to think about it.

I padded quietly out of my room, and tiptoed down the hallway past my parents room. They aren't very heavy sleepers, but as long as I was quiet I would be fine.

I snuck down the stairs, avoiding the second step. It squeaked like you wouldn't believe.

I turned the corner to our kitchen, and opened the refrigerator.

That was when I heard it. The quiet sound of footsteps on the porch. Multiple pairs.

My parents had warned me about this. I didn't think it would actually happen. It's kind of like those people who think nothing had will happen to them, or believe it won't. That was me with my.....issue.

Guess I have to tell you now.

I'm a werewolf. Well, not yet exactly. I haven't changed yet, but my father said it would be soon.

My parents had sat me down a week ago and gave me 'The Talk.' Not the birds and the bees talk, but the 'Honey your fathers a werewolf and you are to' talk.

Its not the horror movie half human half wolf deal. When we change it's all wolf. I'm sixteen, and the first change happens soon after. Or so my father told me.

They explained how my grandparents (On my dads side) passed the gene to my father, and him to me.

They then explained that we had to constantly be alert. That They could come at any moment.

That's all they had told me. They said they would explain more after my first change.

At first I handy believed them. I was looking for the hidden cameras, an the people ready to yell, 'Haha you fell for it!'

But the my father had...I guess shifted is the right word. My father shifted in front of me.

It didn't look painful. One second he was here, the next a smokey gray wolf. I would have missed it if I had blinked.

My reaction right before the shift had been to ask how much they had to drink that night. But my parents never drank.

A creak on the porch snapped me from my thoughts. I darted up the stairs to my parents room.

"Dad, oh my god They're here!" I half yelled.

My dad was up in an instant, my mother at his side. They were both in their pajamas, and I would have laughed at my dads long pants with little hearts on them. (A gift from my mother) But now was not the time.

"What?!" he asked me.

Then to my mother, "How so fast?"

"They had to have known, somehow they knew she would turn soon!" my mother said frantically.

The crash of a window breaking down stairs made me jump.

"Go!" my mother said, pushing me to my room.

Just as I ran past my bedroom doorway, I saw an all grey wolf dart down the stairs, and heard growling.

'My father.' I thought wildly.

My mother shut my door and locked it. She pushed me toward the window.

"Go, run and don't come back unless you know it's safe!"

I hugged her tightly saying, "I won't leave you!"

"Kate go!! They don't want you, they want-" .

The rest of her sentence was cut off by a snarl from downstairs, and a loud crashing.

I ripped back my violet curtains. I opened the window, scanning the tree line beyond our house and whispered, "I love you."

I jumped. My room was on the second floor, so it was a longer fall that I would've liked.

I hit the ground, absorbing the impact by bending my knees.

I turned back to the window, but my mother was gone.

Tonight was a full moon. Good because I would need all the light I could get. Bad because it would be easier for Them to spot me.

I slid along the side of the house, going around back. I kept to the shadows.

From my vantage point I could see two black vans parked in our driveway.

I heard the crack of a gunshot, and had to bit my lip to keep from crying out to my parents. 'Please let them be ok.' I begged whatever higher power was out there.

I heard rustling, and saw a flashlights beam sweep across the grass in front of me. I threw myself backwards, but the light had already hit me.

I heard cries of, "There she is!"

I turned and ran into the dense woods that surrounded out house, trying to outrun my pursuers.
