Chapter 12
I got up in the morning, staying in my pajamas. I was tired and didn't care if I had bed head.
I practically sleep-walked down the stairs, almost tripping twice. You would think being a werewolf, I would be more coordinated, but I guess not.
As soon as I walked into the kitchen I knew something was wrong. I was instantly alert. Clay and David were having a discussion when I walked in, and when Clay saw me he gave me a small smile. Sarah wasn't in the room.
"Good morning, sleepy head."
Well we couldn't all be like him. Waking up in perfect condition, never tired.
"What's going on?" I asked, worry creeping into my voice.
The two guys looked at each other, sharing a look.
"Come on Clay, I'm not a delicate flower." I said, knowing whatever it was, he wouldn't want to tell me.
David made the decision to tell me, and from the looks of it, still against Clay's wishes.
"Sarah is gone." David looked at my reaction as he said this.
"Wait gone as in missing or gone as in......" I let my question trail off, knowing they would get it. And I didn't want to say it. It would make it more real, more of a possibility.
"Gone as in missing." Clay clarified.
Then what were we doing sitting around here?
"Well then lets go find her!"
Clay and David shared another look, and I wanted to scream in frustration.
Clay finally, finally spoke up.
"I followed her scent out to the yard, it leads into the forest. There's no other scent with it. At least to the edge of the woods."
Meaning she walked there by herself. What was Sarah doing?
"Well lets go find her." Why wouldn't we go after her?
Clay and David were hesitant at first, but in the end I convinced Clay to at least let us try to follow her scent.
David finally relented, telling us to stay together. He was going to stay here in case Sarah returned.
Clay and I followed Sarah's scent to the tree line, just barley concealing ourselves to change.
I stripped out of my pajamas quickly, stashing them under another briar bush.
I reached inside of me, finding my wolf within.
My change came even faster this time, even easier.
When I was fully wolf, I gave a short bark and Clay returned.
We followed Sarah's scent slowly through the trees. Clay let me lead, as my nose was more sensitive.
Sarah's scent led us deeper into the forest.
Clay was erring anxious.
-We should turn back Kate.-
But I didn't want to go back yet, I wanted to know what happened to Sarah.
-Just a couple more minutes, please. Then if we haven't found anything, we will head back.- I begged.
For a moment Clay looked like he would refuse, and drag me back, but he sighed in my head.
-Fine, five minutes."
So I lead on. Sarah's scent wound back and forth through the trees. It was odd.
