Chapter 8
When I woke up the next morning, my eyes were sore and I had a stuffy nose. Great.
I got up and looked at my room, only now taking in its appearance.
On the left of the doorway, there was a small, wooden dresser. My bed was on the wall adjacent to it, facing across the room. There was a tall lamp in the corner opposite the dresser, and a small writing desk next to it. The walls were a pale brown color, wooden, with a chair rail running across all the walls, parallel to the ground.
My bed had a purple comforter on it, almost exactly the same color as my old curtains.
I quickly looked somewhere else, and noticed a small window on the far wall, directly across from the door.
I walked over to it, and looked outside. I was so close to the forest, and I had the urge to go running. But not with two legs.
I turned to the other door I had seen, the one across from my bed. I opened it and found it was a small bathroom. It had a sink and toilet on one side, and a small stall shower on the other.
The walls inside we're painted a muted brown, and matched the walls of my room.
I walked back to my room and looked at the dresser. Worth a shot.
I opened one of the drawers and remarkably, there were clothes in it.
I guess I know what Sarah had been doing yesterday while we were in the woods.
I quickly picked out undergarments, a pair of jeans,(How in the world did they know my size?) and a plain, white tank top.
It was weird to be able to see all the stitching down to the tiniest detail.
I don't think I would ever get used to the eyesight.
I returned to the bathroom and took a quick shower. It was already stocked with shampoo, conditioner and soap. I dressed when I was done and looked around for something to pull my hair back.
My search yielded nothing in the bathroom, but I found a bag of supplies in the desk's drawers. A bag contained a new hair brush, and bobby pins, along with some rubber bands. There was also deodorant, (Which I used gratefully) and other toiletries.
Man, Sarah was thorough. I was just wondering what to do, when the smell of bacon hit my sensitive nose.
My stomach growled as if on signal, and I padded out of my room. I remembered taking a right, into my room last night, so I went left. The hallway had simple paintings hung periodically along the walls. I walked a short distance, ten down a set of stairs.
I was on the last step when I slipped, and fell strait into David.
I picked my self up and apologized to David.
Finally getting a good look at him, I noticed he was kinda handsome. Not that I was into him like that.
His eyes were grey, and his hair was salt and pepper colored. It matched his eyes almost perfectly.
He smiled warmly at me and told me,
"It's ok, I did the same thing, I'm going I have to fix that step before someone really-"
An that was when Clay showed up, entering the room the same way I had.
David and I laughed and helped him up.
For once it was Clay's face that was red. Either from laughing or embarrassment, I couldn't tell.
When I got a full view of Clay I was practically drooling.
He was wearing kaki cut offs, and a white shirt with the sleeve rolled up. He was stunning.
I dropped my gaze when he noticed me staring at him.
We went into the kitchen, and it was beautiful. There was a small island in the center, covered in cooking utensils.
Sarah was placing plates full of food on the small table, that was behind the kitchen. She had dirty blonde hair, and was very petite.
A small doorway led into the dinning room, where we were going to eat.
We all sat down, and I smelled the wonderful food. Yummy pancakes drenched in syrup, and bacon on the side.
Clay and I ate quickly, getting seconds. David and Sarah finished with one plate. I guess being a werewolf gives you a fast metabolism.
After everyone's hunger was sated, Sarah asked how I was doing.
"Ok now, but last afternoon isn't something I want to repeat."
Clay nodded silently in agreement.
David spoke up.
"We aren't sure how long we will be here. It could range from a day, to a month, to a year. It just depends on when we get the call saying its safe to move."
"So what do we do until then?" I asked.
This time Sarah answered.
"We sit back, relax, and try not to attract attention."
I was worried by the chance that the SCA could find us, but I think we were pretty safe where we were. And it was a beautiful place, full of woods and forests to romp in. That reminded me.
"Hey David, where are we?"
"Somewhere in north Tenneessee."
I thought about that. I had lived in north Carolina, so we weren't too terribly far away.
Sarah started clearing away plates, so I got up and helped. We put them in the sink, and I helped wash the dishes. David and Clay went onto the porch.
Just when we were finishing drying the dishes, Clay appeared, grinning from ear to ear.
I watched him suspiciously.
"What's going on?" I asked tentatively.
Clay answered in a mysterious voice,
"Today, we hunt."
