Chapter 11

The next morning, I was still half asleep, when something heavy landed on me, knocking the breathe out of me.

I screamed and rolled off the bed.

I let out an 'oomph' as I hit the cold floor. I got up and looked at Clay.

"What are you doing?" I asked as calmly as possible.

"Well I figured-"

The rest of Clay's explanation was cut off when David burst through the doorway, holding an odd looking gun.

When he saw that we were fine, he lowered the weapon.

He looked from me on the floor, to the grin on Clay's face. I think he got the idea.

He breathed out a sigh of relief, and left, closing the door behind him.

Clay laughed, and lain an envelope on my bed. Before I could ask what was going on, he left.

I grabbed the envelope, and ripped it open. Inside was one sentence.

'Meet me in the woods.'

Leave it to Clay to explain things.

I quickly changed out if the clothes I had slept in, and pulled on jean shorts, and, a cute blue tank top.

Sarah had a pretty good taste in pclothes.

I quickly ran a brush through my hair, pulling it back. I practically ran down the stairs, almost running into Sarah.

"Sorry!" I called over my shoulder.

"Th-that's ok." She said, sounding strange. I wondered what was with her.

"Going with Clay! Be back later."

I opened the front door and flew off the porch.

"Be careful! Stay close!" This time it was David who answered.

"Yeah!" I yelled back.

I ran through the trees, using Clays scent to guide me. I passed the place where I first changed and slowed to a walk.

Clay's scent lead further, but why would he go deeper into the woods?

I walked quietly through the trees, enjoying the nice day.

The sun filtered through the trees, casting shadows here and there. Birds chirped, here and far away. I heard a woodpecker somewhere in the distance.

I closed my eyes and just breathed. It was so...I don't know, I guess calming is the right word. Everything was so peaceful, so-

I was cut off from my thoughts when I smelled Clay, he was behind me, upwind.

I stayed still and when Clay jumped out, wrapping his hands over my already closed eyes, I didn't freak.

"Upwind." I said simply.

He let out a string of curse words, and I laughed.

With his hands still covering my eyes, he began to guide me forward.

I stopped and turned to face him. His hands dropped an my eyes met his.

"How do I know you wot walk me into a tree?" I really could see Clay doing that.

"Trust me." Was all he said, a gleam in his eyes.

I sighed dramatically and faced forward again, closing my eyes and relying on hearing and smell.

Clay guided me forward, and it seemed to take him forever to get me where we were going. But I did notice we had doubled back, so now we were running parallel to the house.
