"I... I don't think this is working out."
My eyes derived of any sort of sparkle or light. It was replaced with a void of darkness. Sadness. Lifelessness.
"W-What do you mean...?" I asked my husband, concerned. "You're just kidding, right?"
"No, I'm not, (y/n)." My fake smile faltered, until it dissolved into a frown.
"Eren... Why?" I stammered, tears slowly filling the emptiness in my eyes. He sighed in front of me, frowning as he looked out the window. The small raindrops that fell from the sky dropped onto the window, a small pat pat pat just barely audible. It was the only thing that broke the silence between us.
"I'm sorry (y/n)... We've been through so many fights and arguments, and I just can't handle it anymore." Eren whispered, looking away from my gaze. I swiftly got up from my seat.
"What the hell do you mean?! You're always the one starting shit!" I screamed in his face, tears now streaming down my face. "I had to endure it for 14 years, and this is how you repay me?!"
"This is what I mean, (y/n)." My eyes widened. It was like a strike to my heart.
Was I really the one to start everything...?
"I'm sorry (y/n). I loved you... but I do have to confess." He paused and stood up from the wooden chair. "I've been seeing this one girl. I haven't done anything with her. We just been hanging out. I was deciding our relationship, you and I. She's really nice and, I'm just so sorry (y/n). I wish it didn't have to end this way." I sat back down, my bangs covering my hurt eyes. I clenched my fists, and kept them to my side.
"Well, that being said, ah, here." He grabbed his college backpack that leaned on the wall next to him. He was 34, he kept the backpack forever. He took out a manila folder with a rubber band securing the papers contained inside of it. He placed the folder in front of me, and sighed.
"Those... those are the divorce papers. You can keep the house, I'll be moving in with the girl."
"I thought you said you guys didn't have anything going on between you two."
"Yeah, but she's willing to let me stay for a couple days until I get everything sorted out. And, with little-"
"Yeah, what about him? Is he living with me?"
"Yes, he was a mistake."
My eye twitched. I slammed my fists onto the table and stood up once more.
"Don't you ever say that about him! He's our child, how can you even say that? What the hell is wrong with you?!" I yelled, a booming sound projected from outside, matching my level of intensity and energy.
"You know what? Fine! Leave then! At least I care about my son! You worthless shit!" I barked, grabbing the papers from the table. "These will be signed by next week. Get the fuck out of my house."
His eyebrows furrowed, before getting close to me. He raised his right hand and hit the side of my face with much force. I fell to the ground, my cheek throbbing. I held a hand up to it, staring at him. I won't let him see me weak.
"If the only thing you can do to defend yourself is by hitting me, then you're pathetic. I can't even believe-"
"Mom?" I was interrupted by my son walking down the stairwell.
