I try not to burst into tears as I sit in the back of our limo. The rain rolls down my window as I stare longingly at my house. Or should I say "old house."
I had told Wyatt a few days ago.
"WHAT!?" He had yelled. "Why didn't you tell me? When!?"
"Thursday..." I had said hopefully, trying not to cower.
"THAT'S IN THREE DAYS!" Wyatt screamed.
"DUDE! You are my bro, and would never do anything to hurt you. My parents didn't tell me the date until Sunday night, so I didn't get the chance to tell you."
Wyatt had looked like he was going to explode, but then his face had softened.
"Yeah... okay I get it. It wasn't fair for your parents to spring that on you." His eyes had looked watery. "I'm really gonna miss you, Hudson." And we had hugged.
"Call me everyday, okay?" I said, sniffling.
"Got it bro." Wyatt had said forlornly. And we did our handshake for the very last time.
My other friends hadn't taken it so well either.
Keira had weeped at my feet. I almost joined her. I had sat down next to her and held her, sniveling as well. "Keira... I will REALLY miss you. SO MUCH."
"Me too, Hud- Hudson," she had choked out. She had wiped her eyes with the back of her hand before leaping up and pressing her lips onto mine for the very last time.
So now, I press my face against the window, quiet tears streaming. Suddenly, the car starts to move. I watch the house I've called home for 13 years slowly disappear into the fog of the rain storm.
A knot clenches in my stomach. I had said goodbye to Herbert this morning. It was hard, because he was like a second father to me... he just gave me whatever I wanted.
I sniffle and look out the window to my right. I see my school- Hotwire Falls Public Middle School- disappear into the mist. The home of Jeremey, Blake, Ethan, Caden, Parker, Lincoln, Ian, Tristan, Wyatt, and Keira. I bite the inside of my cheek. We drive past the baseball fields, the fields that had brought me happiness and concentration for the past six years. The fields that I would've practiced for and won the tournament on. The fields where Keira and I had our first kiss.
Seeing all these memories drift away into nothingness, it seemed as if my life was floating away as well. All my personality and ideas and imagination and interests. All gone, into the deep dark abyss of my empty heart.
