I shut the front door and trot down the steps.  Keira suddenly stops, and turns.

"God Hudson.  Your house is so beautiful." she breathes.

"Thanks.  But trust me, it looks bigger than it actually is."  We continue walking.  There is a really awkward silence, so I say,

"So, uh, wanna get some ice cream?" I flash a wobbly grin at her.

"Sure!  Let's go downtown."

We walk until we hit the Blue Comet (Hotwire Falls' best ice cream store.)  I order a mint chocolate chip cone, and Keira orders cookie dough ice cream.  She starts digging around in her pocket, but I grin,

"It's on me." I buy our frozen treats and we head out of the store.  We find a park bench lined up against a building and we both take a seat.  We both sit for awhile and have some light breezy chitchat, until I spot a newspaper stand placed next to the bench.  I grab one and flip through it as Keira looks at me quizzically.

"Aha!" I cry triumphantly when I find the movie section.  "Want to go to a movie?"

"Of course!" She smiles.  I smile back.  Oh gosh, I hope I'm not blushing...

"Okay, so which one..." I lean the paper towards her.  She selects a film and we walk to the theater.  After I buy the popcorn and soda, we head into the auditorium.  She actually picked a really good movie.

During the movie, I look over at her.

She's so perfect.  Oh God Hudson, don't do this to yourself.  You are going to be moving away, FAR AWAY very soon.  Don't get attached to some random girl right before you leave.  But she's not some random girl!  She's Keira!

All these thoughts bounce around in my brain.  She turns and looks at me.  I raise my eyebrows in the classic Hudson Burke way.  We both laugh and shake our heads.  I sneak my arm around her and she snuggles closer.  Score!
