I awake to my mother shaking me.
"Hudson... time to get up for school..." she persuades.
I grumble and drag myself out of bed. I swallow my breakfast of an Eggo waffle... yipe... and throw on my backpack. Since it is my first day at the school, I won't be able to ride the bus until I receive the bus forms.
My mother puts the key in the ignition. I chew my lip as we pull out of the driveway. We drive in silence as we come closer to my new school, closer to my fate. The car comes to a stop in the parking lot and I climb out. Well, this sure doesn't look promising.
My new school is a tall, three story, brick building. To the right are some basketball courts, tennis courts, and a football field. To my left is just... fields. Fields and fields. The building has numerous windows, but all the blinds are drawn. There is a large, wide staircase leading up to the front doors. In large letters above the doors it says: ROSENBLATT 6-12 SCHOOL. Oh God. High schoolers!? I take an uneasy step up the first stair. I repeat that many times until I reach the doors.
"Bye honey! Have a great day!" My mother waves out the window as she drives away. Oh I know I won't. I grab a handle and pull open the glass door. I take one step in and...
"HOWDY KID! WELCOME TO ROSENBLATT 6-12 SCHOOL!"
"GAH!" I nearly fall over out of surprise. I look for the source of the voice and my eyes rest on a TV monitor. There is a cartoony cowboy riding a cartoony horse. The cowboy yodels,
"I'll bet you're the new student. Welcome! Grab a map of the school and let's get started."
Okay this is just plain wacko. What have I gotten myself into?
