Chapter 1
Harry Potter just finished his second year in Hogwarts and he was still a little shaky from it. He had gone to Dumbledore about it and Snape happened to be in the room; so the three of them went to check it out. Ron was too upset over his sister to do anything; plus there's the fact that Ron had beaten him a few days before. Harry was still shaken up about that too. Why did Ron beat him? What had Harry done to deserve that? Anyways, Harry had to down to the Chambers of Secrets with his professors because he was the only one in the school who spoke Parseltongue. Harry wasn't allowed to go through the second door and Dumbledore ordered Snape to watch him. Snape wasn't happy about that but the two, student and professor, went back to the entrance. It wasn't that Harry didn't trust Snape, it was the fact that he was scared him. Of course he'd never admit it to anyone. Harry swore Snape had figured it out because for the last few weeks, Snape hasn't been as hard on Harry as he had before. He didn't verbally harass him in class or give him detentions that he knew he didn't deserve; he didn't even take any points away from him all these last few weeks and has been grading his papers fairly. Hermione was suspicious about it but Harry wasn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth. He didn't want Snape to hate him. He actually liked Snape, despite being scared, because Snape was the only teacher besides McGonagall who treated him like any other student on his first day at Hogwarts.
Harry hated his fame. Why would someone want to be famous for their parents' death? Harry didn't. He didn't want it at all. If he could, he'd switch places with anyone. Then a sudden thought came over Harry. Is that why Ron did what he did? Out of jealousy? Harry scowled. If Ron wanted it so bad, then he could have it. Harry shook his head. He was getting off topic. Anyways, just as Snape and Harry had passed the giant Basilisk skin, the cave started shaking and Snape grabbed Harry's arm and ran. The next thing Harry knew, the cave had caved in, he was on the ground and so was Snape and not only that, his foot was caught under some rocks. Ironically it was the same one that Fluffy tried to tear off the year before. Harry scrambled to help remove the rocks so his professor could pull his foot loose but Snape just waved him off and with the flick of his wand he raised the rocks and pulled his foot out quickly before they fell again. He cleared away for Dumbledore to get through when he came back. Harry was still sore from the beating he received from Ron and falling on the floor didn't help any. The adrenaline that was rushing in his veins earlier was starting to go away and he was now starting to feel the pain. Yes, Harry didn't want to be Ron's friend anymore and planned on telling him so. Harry remembered how shocked he felt when Snape had asked him if he was okay. Harry could only stutter out what happened a few days before.
Snape seemed to have gotten lost in thought as he didn't say anything else after that. The two just waited patiently for the Headmaster to come back with Ginny. Harry couldn't help but wonder how they would get out of there but soon found his answer when Dumbledore brought Ginny back. He called for some House Elves and the elves Disapparated them out of the cave and into the Headmaster's office where Mrs. Weasley and Mr. Weasley sat waiting, looking anxious with McGonagall. Harry remembered telling Dumbledore and Snape how he and Ron had found out about the Basilisk and how Dumbledore just sat there looking calm and Snape actually looked shocked. Harry knew about what Tom Riddle's diary did to Ginny, but it was Dumbledore who told him who Tom Riddle was. So now Harry is sitting up in his room at number 4 reading his birthday cards he got from Hagrid and Hermione. Ron didn't send him one but Harry wasn't surprised, just hurt. He smiled at Hermione's letter and the sugar free sweets and cake she sent him. Hagrid's present was a bit dangerous but as it was a book, Harry assumed it would be for school next term. He really enjoyed Hermione's present. She was very thoughtful when it came to her presents. Harry bet she had a process when it came to choosing presents for others. He chuckled at the thought.
