Donnie lived in a luxury high rise apartment with huge floor to ceiling windows in almost every room. There were so many of them they seemed to replace some of the walls in her home. For an apartment it was very spacious. From the looks of it she kept it clean and tidy. Even the glass on her windows appeared untouched. there wasn't a smudge on site. It was a nice place, but according to Kenya its best feature was the wraparound balcony. It had the perfect view of the downtown skyline. Kenya was astonished as she currently stood there looking out from the sixteenth floor. "It's so Beautiful up here" Kenya thought to herself as she admired the view. The warm breeze kissed her skin and Kenya felt a calmness overcome her.
In the distance she could see countless tall buildings that were all lit up similar to Christmas trees. She loved the way the sky seemed to glow along with the lights. The colors, the sounds of the city, and the traffic whisking by all seemed so relaxing from where she stood. Kenya closed her eyes and allowed her mind to take her back to a time where she enjoyed the best parts of life. She thought about when she was just a kid in Kansas City with big hopes and even bigger dreams.
Back then life was easy. She would have never guessed she'd be going through what she was going through now. She was supposed to become a doctor, marry a husband with a successful career, build a family and live happily ever after. The amount of stress and betrayal she was going through wasn't in her plans at all. Adulting seemed way easier when she was just a kid dreaming about becoming one. A faint smile graced her face as she thought about that young girl with big plans. Her smile faded soon after due to the melancholy mood she was in.
" You like the view?" Donnie asked, snapping Kenya from her trance.
Kenya nearly jumped at the sound of her voice. She quickly spun around holding her hand over her chest as she breathed heavily. She was so light on her feet that Kenya hadn't heard her approaching. Donnie was standing near the Balcony entrance leaning against the door frame. She was dressed differently than before. She smelled fresh like she had just stepped out of the shower. She traded in her ice, jewels and show clothes for a more simple laid back attire. A black t-shirt, grey baggy sweats, and a pair of black socks.
"Damn" Kenya thought as she looked at her. She had to remind herself she didn't swing that way but that girl was just too fine. Anybody could see that.
"My bad, I didn't mean to scare you"
"No, it's ... It's fine" Kenya stammered "What were you saying?"
"I was just asking if you liked the view that's all"
" It's beautiful," She answered.
Donnie crossed the threshold and gently grabbed her by the hand, leading her back inside. Once they were there she handed Kenya a small glass, filled it with a clear liquid. Kenya knew it was some type of alcoholic beverage but she wasn't sure which kind. She looked at the glass skeptically, before sniffing it. The scent was strong and burned her nose a little.
"What is this?" Kenya asked.
" A shot of Don. Hopefully it'll help loosen your ass up" Donnie said playfully.
Kenya's mouth fell open in shock. She had forgotten how blunt Donnie could be at times. She had a habit of saying whatever came to mind without any consideration. Though she had said it in a joking manner, Kenya could tell that it was really how she felt, knowing there is always a bit of truth in every joke.
" I know you're not trying to call me stuck up," she replied.
Donnie shook her head " Nah, I wouldn't say that. You just always seem so damn tense like your mind stays on go or something"
