The high domed ceilings of the museum made Destiny feel like she was standing at the bottom of a very expensive well. The place was quiet. The kind of quiet that made the sound of her high heeled shoes sound like gunshots echoing against the polished marble walls. She adjusted her bag and darted her eyes towards the small crowd forming on the other side of the room. The women moved like they were made of glass, draped in fine linen and silk. They carried champagne flutes and stuck up attitudes. They seemed to look right through her or worse they looked at her as if she was a stain on the floor. She felt out of place. She didn't know why their vacation caused them to be in a place like this amongst all those bougie ass people.
" Fix your face" Tye whispered after noticing Destiny's mean mug.
" Damn, was it that obvious?" She joked, cracking a wide smile.
" Stevie Wonder could have seen that shit"
" I'm sorry. I was just wondering why you decided to bring us to a place like this"
" It's a whole lot of money in this room. I'm just getting used to it. this is where the fuck we belong. You better act like you know it" He smiled.
" I know it" She shot back
" Aight, that's what I'm talking about. Now let's check some of this shit out. I bet we can find something that looks good for our new spot when we get it" He said as they began moving towards the painting that had everyone's attention.
The canvas was massive, nothing like she had seen before back home. There were no spray painted murals. No bright colors or jagged tags. The paintings were deep, crimson red with distorted bodies and faces. They were heavy with the kind of pain that she actually could recognize.
" Look at this," She said, nodding towards the art on the wall.
" Its a woman with three heads"
" No, look at the eyes" She countered. " They look crazy like she's anticipating a blow to come from somewhere she cant see. She looks terrified yet she's standing there like she's made of stone"
Destiny expected the place to be boring. Looking at the raw paintings on the wall she realized she had more in common with the people in the paintings than the ones walking in the room.Tyrone peeped the price tag on the painting and his eyes grew big.
" Man, I know a crackhead in the hood who can do something like this for ten dollars."
A man in a black tux walked by and gave them a long lingering look. Tye squared his shoulders, as he returned the look. The street side of him started to leak through his polished exterior. Destiny gently grabbed his hand, seemingly disarming his gangsta.
" Don't." She whispered. " Let his ass look. It's clear they're just looking at the artwork. We're the only ones here who actually get it"
A woman stepped from behind a pillar and moved close to them. Her hair was pulled back into a tight bun and she dragged a Kaftan that probably cost more than some people's rent. The aura she carried into the room with her screamed rich bitch but she carried a certain vibe to her that wasn't like the rest in the room. Where they seemed stuck up and non-social, she was the total opposite and carried a welcoming smile.
That's actually a great observation of it. Most people in this room would have said something about the colors of the paint, or discussed what they thought the influence was behind it. You said she looks like she was waiting for a hit. That's the most honest thing I've heard in the gallery all night. I'm Lucia." The woman said, holding her hand out. Destiny looked at it a few seconds before finally shaking her hand.
