Our date was in a matter of hours and I was still looking over clothes. What does one wear on a date? Jeans? Or dress? I was stuck between a rock and a hard place. I had out two outfit for my date tonight that I was excited and nervous about it all at once. Should I wear my favorite pair of blue jeans pants with a sheer top or should I wear the fitted top and loose bottom dress that was super cute? Decisions, decisions.
I searched for my phone under the pile of clothes and dialed the only person that would really understand my clothing dilemma right now. Her phone rang and she didn't pick up so no luck there. I put the phone down on the bed and grunted in frustration, my phone buzzed and vibrated she was calling back, thank God.
"What's wrong? Are you hurt?" She fired the questions at me.
"No I'm fine. I just need your help with something." I dug my polished toenails in the carpet.
"You need my help?" she asked.
"Yes and don't make a big deal out of it." I warned her.
"I won't, it's just that you haven't needed my help for some time this is music to my ear." I could tell she was smiling.
"Mom focus." I told her.
"Yes focus. What's the situation?" Her tone serious.
"Is dad around?" I asked, I didn't want him to be up in my business and telling me the chances of this date failing. He liked Andre but he didn't really want me dating.
"Uhm...no he isn't." She fibbed.
"Don't lie mom." I sighed.
"Fine, he was but he just left." That sounded more like the truth. "Wait let's video chat turn on the tv." I turned it on and she was on the screen with curlers in her hair and her face holding no evidence of makeup and she was still beautiful, my mom. "So what's the dealio?" She asked and I scuffed.
"No one says that mom." I laughed at her attempt to be cool, epic failure.
"In my day that was hip." She informed me.
"Well your days was when dinosaurs roamed the Earth." I commented.
"I'm not that old." She pointed her finger at me.
"Pssh." I rolled my eyes.
"How is Andre? He is so handsome." She admired Andre said she was happy I was becoming happy.
"Glad that you mentioned Andre he came out." I tucked a lock of hair behind my ear.
"He's gay." She looked shocked and deeply hurt, then her features softened. "That explains a lot." She held her chin and I was taken back.
"He is not gay, he is straight thank you very much and what do you mean explains a lot?" I asked a little ticked off.
"I was kidding he is too sexy to be gay, I saw him the other day in New York and let me say he gets even sexier every time." She was lusting after my boyfriend.
"No mom just no, you're my mother he is my boyfriend you just don't say stuff like that." I looked at her oddly, it's just gross.
"Sorry but he is a looker. So how has your relationship been going?" She asked.
"It's been going good, we finally came out of our hiding place and we are now exclusive and happy about it, it's going really great and I'm happy." I smiled.
"Wait are you blushing? Aww that's so cute my little girl is in love." She clapped her hands in excitement.
"I wouldn't say love I have deep regard for him." I tucked another hair away.
