Finally Derek got Brooklyn in the car and started driving. After about 15 minutes in car watching the world pass by Brooklyn decided to speak up. "Where are we going?"
"It's a surprise." Derek looked over to the girl in the passenger seat. "You'll find out when we get there." Brooklyn sighed and sat back in her seat turning her music up as she watched the city pass by. Soon enough, Derek parked the car. Looking out the front window Brooklyn felt stupid for not knowing where they were going.
"Ferry boat?" She asked, arching her eyebrow.
"Of course." Derek stated. "They're relaxing. It makes it easy to get away for a little bit. I think you need that right now. We don't have to talk but it would probably be better if we did. Zola said you wouldn't talk to her."
Brooklyn shrugged. "I wasn't really in the mood to talk."
"But are you now?"
"I don't know. I talked to Mark last night. He came and sat with me. He seems good. I don't see why she would run away like that and leave me to think that my dad didn't want me for 15 years. It doesn't make any sense." Brooklyn sighed. "I don't even want to look at her right now and she wants me to talk to her."
"Listen, Grey's are notoriously spontaneous by nature. Meredith, Meredith's mom your mom, you'll probably pick up on it too, but I think after you dropped that bomb last night you've already got some in you. It runs in your blood. Like, the first time Meredith met Lexie. She really just kind of showed up for her first day of residency and told Meredith that she was her sister. That. That was not a fun thing to deal with. Meredith didn't want anything to do with your mom but she wanted to get to know Meredith. Finally she kept pushing and broke through but it took a while." Derek reminisced. "What I'm saying is, don't blame her. She was doing what she thought would be best for you. You talk to her when you're ready but the sooner the better because she'll keep poking and prodding and you'll feel better after the two of you talk it out."
"How did you keep this a secret this whole time? I mean, Mark is your best friend." Brooklyn asked. "Is he mad at you?"
"I don't know. I haven't gotten the chance to talk to him yet. He left pretty quickly last night." Derek shrugged. "You two," Derek started. "You two are in this together. When Sloan- Sloan Reilly- first showed up here there was a lot to get used to. He pushed everyone away to try to get on good terms with her. His heart was in the right place, it usually is. He's going to want to try. You just have to let him but don't let him try too hard. Trust me, I've known Mark for a long time. We're practically brothers."
"How long have you known Mark?"
"Since we were eight or nine probably. Closest thing I ever had to a brother and I was the closest thing he ever had to a sibling."
"Wow." Brooklyn looked out over the water. The sun glistened off of it perfectly as the wind blew a gentle breeze making her glad she wore what she did. Otherwise, she'd be freezing. "How long are we staying out here?"
"Until you feel better or we have to fulfill a basic need. Whichever comes first really."
Brooklyn nodded and continued to stare, getting lost in her thoughts. Everything around her was so serene, it made it easy for her to lose herself. It allowed her to absorb herself in the sea of emotions she was currently caught in. It was helpful though. It was better than tearing into her flesh which was an action she was trying to fight off. It was the whole reason she'd let Lexie take the bed the previous night. She didn't trust herself. Originally, she'd done it because she was lonely. There was never anyone around. Her mother was there, sure, but somethings just needed to be bottled up. So, that's what she did until everything erupted. She sighed and shook her head pulling herself away from the thoughts. "Why do you like ferryboats so much?"
