Chapter 12: Chasing Cars

 Let's waste time

Around our heads

As Lexie reached her second trimester, Brooklyn was happy she could finally get the news off of her chest. There was still about a month until they could find out whether the baby was a boy or a girl, but at least it was no longer a secret. "Sof," Brooklyn called to Sofia when she was spotted in the hallway. "Hey! Did you hear-?"

"About the baby?" Sofia cut her off. Her voice was level but sharp. "Yeah, I heard. Dad told me yesterday. He said you knew. Why didn't you tell me?"

Brooklyn looked at her. "They told me not to tell anyone. I'm pretty sure the only reason I was told is because I found out on my own. Are you mad?"

"I don't-" Sofia sighed. "I don't know maybe a little but I don't really know who to be mad at. I can't be mad at Dad or Lexie, I mean I doubt they planned this. I can't be mad at you, you had nothing to do with this. But I can't be mad at the baby either because it isn't it's fault for existing, so I'm just kind of confused. It's a lot to take in, having another sibling. Especially after you were the only one for 16 years."

"I know exactly what you mean. I felt the same way. But I've got to live with the little munchkin... and the hormones the little munchkin is giving my mom. That's a fun time." Brooklyn stated sarcastically.

"That does not sound like fun."

"I mean, it could probably be worse but she has her days. We've been arguing more because of it."

"You two never argue."

"I know. It's really weird. I can't stand being in the same room as her some days. I'm gonna have to move in with you or Aunt Mer or something."

"Speaking of Meredith. Have you seen Zola?"

"Uh, not this morning." Brooklyn looked around the crowded hallway and through the sea of people. "There she is. Hey Zo! So, this weekend I was thinking we could all hang out. Us, me, and Jules. I was thinking we could go see a movie and then come back to my house and stay there. What do you think? I mean, I still have to ask my mom but she shouldn't care." Brooklyn offered.

"Sounds fun. I'll be there as long as my moms don't have something to do." Sofia nodded.

"Me too." Zola nodded. "I've wanted to get to know Jules more anyway."

The four girls anxiously waited for the weekend. Jules seemed to mesh just perfectly with the other girls so it was easier on Brooklyn to not have to try to pick and choose who to spend time with. "Jules, are you coming home with me tonight? Or you going to go home first and we can just pick you up on the way to the movies?"

"I think I'm going to go home first." Jules sighed. "I don't know if I'm going to be able to make it. I don't really feel well."

"Oh." Brooklyn nodded. "Well, if you're feeling any better by tonight or tomorrow you can still come over. I'm pretty sure Zola and Sofia are just moving in this weekend so we'll be there but text me first so I know. I really hope you start to feel better so you can come."

"Cool. I'll try to make it but when I say I don't feel well my mom usually freaks and makes me stay in bed."

"It's cool. Try to make it though. It's going to be so much fun."

Jules smiled. "I'll try."

Later that night the Zola, Sofia, and Brooklyn made it back to Lexie and Brooklyn's house. They planned on seeing the newest horror movie as late as possible that night so they took the time to plan the rest of the weekend's activities while they were lounging around the house later.
