Chapter 13: She's My Winona

Then came a baby boy with long eyelashes

Daddy said "You gotta show the world your thunder"

"Hey, do you want to come to the ultrasound today?" Lexie asked as Brooklyn came down and ate breakfast.

"That's today!?" Brooklyn spun around quickly from the refrigerator. Her eyes were wide and a smile grew across her face.

Lexie let out a small giggle. She hadn't seen Brooklyn this excited about something since they left for Seattle the first time. It had been months. "I'm surprised you haven't been counting down the days. The appointment's at nine." Lexie joked. "Anyway, you can just come to the hospital with me today and I'll take you to school after."

"Can't I just stay at the hospital all day?" Brooklyn whined.

Lexie squinted her eyes and looked at her. "Don't you have a test today?"

"Maybe." Brooklyn stated quietly. "I can make it up. It'll be fine."

"You're going to school in time for your test. I'll give you an extra hour. Deal?"

"Yes! Thank you!" Brooklyn exclaimed. "I need to go get dressed. When do we have to leave?"

"Half an hour." Lexie answered.

Brooklyn quickly went upstairs to get dressed coming down just in time to leave. Brooklyn waited impatiently with Lexie and Mark in the waiting room. Finally, Lexie was called back. Brooklyn almost couldn't contain her excitement. Even though she had been rather apprehensive about the subject at the beginning, Brooklyn couldn't wait to have a little sibling around now. She wondered what it would be like having someone so much younger than her around her all the time. She'd heard from all her friends how lucky she was to be an only child and how annoying and bratty their younger siblings are but she always kind of wanted someone to hang out with. It seemed like it would be fun. Her childhood was kind of lonely and she always secretly longed for a little sibling. She'd asked Lexie a couple of times when she was little but that never seemed to work.

Finally they were called back into a small dim room. Brooklyn watched the monitor closely as the image came up on the screen. At first she had trouble making out what was what but as the technician pointed out the objects, it became much clearer to her. The image of her sibling made her face light up.

"We're you all wanting to know the sex?" The technician asked before revealing the sex of the baby. After Lexie answered yes, the technician moved the wand around more to try to get a look. "It's looking like a... boy. Congratulations. He looks completely healthy. You're doing a great job." The technician smiled. It was obvious that everyone in the room was happy.

Soon after, Brooklyn left to spend her time wandering around the hospital for the next hour until she had to back at school for her exam. She found herself outside the nursery again. She watched the babies imagining what her little brother would look like. She watched all the babies, most of them sleeping but some of them cried. She couldn't hear them through the soundproof glass but she imagined their sound.

Addison found her again. "What happened this time? Why aren't you at school?" The redhead began as she appeared behind the brunette.

"What? Oh, nothing happened. My mom had an appointment. It's a boy!" Brooklyn beamed as she turned to face Addison.

"Congratulations. Are you excited?"

"Very! I wasn't really excited about the whole sibling thing at first but I guess it's growing on me."
