Chapter 14: Tenerife Sea
Should this be the last thing I see
I want you to know its enough for me
Because all that you is all that I'll ever be
So in love
"Hey Mom." Brooklyn smiled widely as the two drove away from the hospital.
"Hi Brooklyn." Lexie smiled back before shooting a concerned face at her daughter. "Why are you so happy?"
Brooklyn shrugged. "No reason. Would you rather me be sad? I guess I could do that." Brooklyn immediately moved her face into a frown.
Lexie furrowed her eyebrows. "You're being really weird. Are you okay? Should we turn around. Get you checked out?"
"Nope! I'm fine. Really. So, I was thinking... We haven't done one of those 'Dinner with Mark' things in a while. I think that would be fun."
"Should we?"
"Yes. Definitely. Come on. It'll be fun and it's not like we're going to have a lot of time after you have the baby. Please." Brooklyn dragged out.
"Yeah, okay. When?"
"Friday night." Brooklyn pulled out her phone and sent a message to Mark. "We're in. Operation: Ring Bear is underway."
"Ring Bear?" Mark replied.
"Like Ring Bearer?? But super secret spy missions usually have animals in the title. It's a pun. LAUGH IT'S FUNNY!"
"Didn't say it wasn't. Why is this suddenly a super secret spy mission?"
"Because it's very very large. It's a secret. And Spy missions are ALWAYS way more fun. Anyway, Friday night. 6 o'clock."
"Okay. Sounds good. I'll see you then."
After some very minor convincing, Lexie was on board with going out to dinner with Brooklyn and Mark, but she couldn't help but think that the two of them were up to something. Lexie and Brooklyn got ready and waited for Mark before they were finally taken to the restaurant that was a surprise to the both of them. Brooklyn picked up her camera as she walked out the door. "Why are you bringing your camera?"
"I've decided to start documenting our lives. Camera's help with that." Brooklyn stated with no other explanation.
"For what?"
"I don't know. I don't want to forget things. What if, like, something really important happens that you would want to get on camera but then you're like 'oh no, I don't have a camera. How will I ever cherish this moment forever? It's now only in my memories.' And then you're sad because one day you get really old and can't remember anything." Brooklyn explained with a crazy hypothetical. She decided that she was going to stop talking before she spoiled the entire night. Lexie looked at her, puzzled.
Lexie shook her head. "You're a strange child."
"But I'm your strange child and that's why you love me. Now let's go. Mark is waiting." Brooklyn moved Lexie out the door quickly.
"You are awfully eager tonight."
"MOOOOOOM! Come on!" Brooklyn groaned as she moved her mother through the door.
The night started by going out to dinner at Lexie's favorite restaurant. At this point, she knew the two of them were up to something but she couldn't figure out was. It wasn't her birthday. That was in April. It wasn't Mark's birthday. Why would Mark plan that? Brooklyn's birthday was in a few weeks but Brooklyn said she didn't want a party or anything. So she wouldn't have planned one with Mark. Lexie was completely stumped as to what was happening.
