So, long live the car crash hearts

Lexie and Brooklyn climbed into the car for their day of sightseeing. Brooklyn had been looking forward to seeing the space needle since she found out about it's existence. She couldn't wipe the cheesy grin off of her face at the thought of getting to tour around the city she had dreamed of visiting since she was a little girl. The thought gave her butterflies as she imagined what everything would look like up close, what it would smell like, how it would feel. She was pulled out of her trance with the stopping of the car. As she turned to look out the front window she smile dropped. "Traffic." She mumbled.

"We're going to get there." Lexie assured the teen before attempting to figure out what was going on. Traffic seemed to be blocked from both directions. "Most likely. Whatever happened wasn't good."

Brooklyn's head dropped and she slumped down into the seat. They waited unmoved for about a half hour. They had heard and seen many ambulances, firetrucks, police cars, they assumed it was just a bad accident but then many cars had decided to turn around. About the same time her phone rang. It was Mark. "Are we okay? Yeah of course we're okay why wouldn't we be-" Lexie couldn't finish the statement before she realized what had happened. The reason for all the traffic. "Mark, I'll call you back." Lexie stated as she hung up.

"Oh my god." Brooklyn managed to stammer out as the view of wrecked cars and collapsed roadways flooded her eyes. The road had collapsed. Brooklyn immediately felt the car pull to the side of the road. She watched as her mom got out of the car. "What the hell are you doing?" Brooklyn asked.

"There are hurt people everywhere, Brooklyn. Stay in the car."

"What makes you think I'm staying in the car at a time like this?"

"Brooklyn, it's dangerous."

"Then why would I let you go? Especially alone. Either we both say here or we both go."

Lexie looked out at the carnage. She couldn't just sit by and watch it all happen and there was no way she was convincing Brooklyn to stay in the car. Finally, she sighed. "Fine. Get out. But don't you dare go wandering off."

Brooklyn got out of the car quickly and followed Lexie who began triaging people immediately. They'd found a few that were tagged either dead or green but finally they came across a case with potential. It was a young woman, she looked to be in her early 20's, just looking at her Lexie knew that the case was going to be difficult. The car had crushed her. She was covered in burns and there was obvious blunt force trauma to the head. "Hi. I'm Doctor Grey." Lexie began with a reassuring smile. "I'm going to get you out of here. Can you tell me your name?"

"S-s-s-sarah." She finally choked out. "Sarah Holland."

"Nice to meet you, Sarah." Lexie snapped on some gloves. "How old are you?"

"T-Twenty-f-four."

"Is it hard to breathe?" Lexie asked and Sarah gave a nod. "Okay. I believe you have a collapsed lung. It's going to be okay. We just have to get you out."

"O-okay. H-how?"

"We're going to figure something out together alright. What were you doing when the road collapsed?" Lexie began making conversation to keep her calm.
