I have a gift. I can tell mothers what exact time their fetus was first conceived inside them and I can track pregnant women down through their babies. Most think my gift is weird, and so do I, others think it's amazing. Well. The pregnant mothers anyway. Alphas from far and wide come to me to either find their mates or tell them when their baby is coming.
I never thought I'd be the one to be using my gift on myself.

My name is Valentina Fray, a senior in high school and about to turn eighteen. We're the Hollow Valley Pack, most of us dwell in the valley where the fields are vast and the pups have much space to roam safely. We're a tight knit people and our Alpha, Tobias, makes our safety his top priority. I'm the daughter of the Beta, Onyx Fray.

"Hey girls, Bailey marked me yesterday night," Jennifer blushes a deep red and touches her cheeks. The girls squealed in excitement and hugged her tightly and somehow I got pulled into it. Walking through the halls resembled traveling through history, it was terrifying yet captivating. When we pass Locker B100 I think about freshman year and Lily Harmon slamming me into it, giving it a dent. Everyone called me Dent after until Jennifer became my secret service and shielded me. Thinking of Jennifer as my hero, I give her a hug. She deserved happiness from me it's the least I could do.

Economics called my name, but learning about our current economy isn't the greatest subject on the planet. "Hey girls. Remember the Halloween party is tonight," we all groan in unison and Jennifer places her hands on her hips, "For me," she puffs her lips and widens her eyes. Since we were pups she's been doing that, manipulating her friends and family to get what she wanted. 99% of the time it was successful and the 1% was actually Bailey who never fell for her tricks.

My other friends; Melody, Eclipse and Dawn were all marked already. Every girl in school was discovering their mates and their futures in the pack. Except me that is. Dawn's mate was our Alpha. I felt like a fifth wheel next to my friends but at least they had the heart to tell it to me straight,"Val. You need yourself a guy. Hate to break it to ya, but soon we'll be having pups and we need our best girlfriend to ride the train with us." Dawn told me once and the rest of them agreed. Graduation was nearing and some girls left to ally packs for marriage others happened to find happiness here.

We parted ways and headed to our classes. Economics was surprisingly full already which is rare. I turn to my seat and slip in hoping that Ms. York didn't see me while she was writing on the chalkboard. Everyone was staring intently at the door. It surely wasn't the last day of school so what the hell. I tap one of my friends who was staring at the door too, "Thorn what the hell is going on," he turns around with a smug look on his face, "We have a transfer from the BloodMoon Delta pack who just happens to have our class right now," I couldn't stop myself from gasping and everyone turning to look at me before they turn back to the door.

The BloodMoon Delta pack is ruthless and evil. A few months back, one of our own was marked by these beasts and came back drained of any happiness. Her eyes sunken, her back hunched over with a giggling child in her arm. Some said where they lived had no sunlight and others claimed they ate their pups which I think is the most idiotic rumor I ever heard.

Despite what every pack on the Western Turf felt about the BloodMoon Delta pack, they are our leaders. They're the original wolves who created vast populations and separated us all into packs. My father asks me to never question their authority, but secretly my blood boils. A small part of me hoped that there is good in this supposed pack and that what everyone speaks of is merely rumors.

Suddenly, a girl enters the room. Her blonde hair shimmers and her pale skin looks even paler once she takes a look at the room. And I could see why. Most of the males were growling and the females were glaring.
