One by one, the girls stepped out like a scene straight out of a glamorous movie.
Amrit was the first to appear, commanding attention in a stunning red strapless gown that flowed like liquid fire. The fabric clung to her in all the right places before trailing into a soft flare at the hem. Her deep red lips matched her gown, and her hair, styled in voluminous waves, glistened under the amber glow of the porch light.
Kavya followed behind, graceful as ever in her sea green one-piece dress. Anika was next, stepping out with a playful twirl in her white knee-length dress. Nandini emerged last, elegant and composed, her navy-blue off-shoulder gown making her look nothing short of royalty. Trailing behind them, skipping with the unfiltered joy only a child could possess, was little Bulbul. Her bright yellow frock, sprinkled with tiny floral embroidery, fluttered as she ran barefoot for a moment, her laughter echoing like little bells. Her two ponytails bounced with her excitement.
"Mumma, hum kahan jaa rahe hain?" Bulbul's tiny voice broke the pleasant silence of the evening as she clutched Kavya's hand.
Kavya looked down at her daughter and smiled, brushing a curl away from Bulbul's forehead. "Beta, ghumne jaa rahe hain. Party mein," she said sweetly, then added with a wink, "Girls night out."
Bulbul gasped in delight. "Sirf girl? Maza ayega."
"Exactly," Amrit said, twirling slightly in her bold red strapless gown, the fabric flowing around her ankles. "Mai drive karun?" she asked.
"No!" The reaction was instant and unanimous.
Kavya, Nandini, Bulbul and Anika shouted together, their voices overlapping in perfect panic.
Amrit flinched dramatically, placing a hand on her chest. "Arre, aaram se! Murder karna hai kya sabko?" she muttered with mock offense.
Kavya folded her arms and raised an eyebrow. "Akshat bhaiya ki car ki halat dekhi hai humne!"
"That wasn't my fault!" Amrit protested, her tone defensive but her grin betraying her amusement. "Unki car hi kharab thi!"
Anika, in her elegant white knee-length dress, chuckled. "Haan, aur aapka accelerator aur brake confuse hona bhi unki car ki fault thi, right?"
As the laughter settled, they turned to see Nandini standing quietly by the gate, arms folded,
Amrit stepped closer, her smile fading into concern. "Kya ho gaya, Nandu?"
Nandini looked at them with a soft sigh. "Aap log mujhe jabardasti utha laaye. Mera sach mein man nahi tha aaj aane ka."
Amrit gently took her hand. "Maine pehle bhi bola hai... ghar mein baithe baithe depression mein chali jaogi. Kab tak sab se chhupke rahogi?"
