Chapter 23~ Dear Billy, part one.

"So we've decided then, we're not telling her." Nancy added, "yet." Robin cut in, "not yet." She repeated slowly, her eyes started tearing up.

"Robin." Steve placed his hand on her back, giving her a sympathetic look. "I just- I can't believe we're not actually related-" she said quietly.

"But you're still sisters okay? That hasn't changed." Steve reassured her, Nancy just stood there, not knowing what to say after her and Robins conversation.

"I feel like I'm keeping another secret from her."

"But this isn't something she needs to hear right now, she'll understand that when you finally tell her." He said, Robin gently nodded her head, still not feeling reassured.

Robin paused in the hallway outside Nancy's bedroom, arms crossed tightly over her chest. The door was cracked open, and she could hear the soft rustle of papers. Robin then pushed the door open.

Nancy barely looked up, she was sitting at her desk, flicking through two thin folders.

"Ziggy said you needed me." Robin pursed her lips, as she stayed by the door, not wanting to step in any further.

"Uh- yeah." Nancy replied, finally looking up, her expression was unreadable. "We don't have time to fight."

Robin raised an eyebrow, "I didn't know we were fighting, I thought I was just...being silently judged."

Nancy looked away, her jaw tightening, "we need to be focused on Max right now, she's running out of time."

Robin let out a breath, forcing herself to push down the anger she was suddenly feeling for Nancy. "Okay, let's talk about Max." She said through gritted teeth.

"We're going to Pennhurst Asylum." Nancy handed Robin the folder from her desk that had a fake student file inside of it, "I called earlier, told them we're psych students from Notre Dame doing a co writing thesis on paranoid schizophrenics and we'd like to talk to Victor Creel." She started explaining.

"And they said yes, just like that?" Robin questioned.

"Uh, no." Nancy pursed her lips, "but I landed us a three o'clock with the director, so all we have to do now is charm him and convince him to let us talk to Victor."

Robin nodded, slowly, "okay, uh got it- I think- so uh, let's go tell the others." She lingered for a second, then turned to leave.

"Robin, wait!" Nancy said abruptly, causing Robin to stop fast in her tracks and turn around, "I'm not...homophobic."

"You don't have to do that Nancy, I'm aware that most people don't agree with it so it's fine. I get it if you're uncomfortable." Robin said.

"I didn't mean to react like that."' Nancy replied, "it's just-"

"Just what?" Robin pressed, "weird? Disappointing? Disgusting?"

Nancy's jaw clenched, "don't put words in my mouth."

"Then say the ones you do mean." Robin snapped. Nancy looked away then stared down at the floor.

Robin just scoffed, "that's what I thought." She said before walking out of Nancy's room.

~

Robin came down the stairs first, barely meeting anyone's eyes, Nancy followed a few seconds later.

"We have a plan." Nancy said, pursing her lips.

"Uh, Nancy made the plan- not me." Robin said, awkwardly, causing Max and Ziggy to grimace.
