"So you got detention for rummaging through the Abscisus section of the library." Elsa said, summing up the day's events. The girls were in the Zeta. It was eight PM. "Yes, Elsa, but it was totally worth it. Now I'm sure Kath's been brainwashed. I know who did it and I also know what the motive was." Ariana said with a hint of pride. Elsa sat up straight, excited. "Tell me everything. How did you do all this in such a short time?" "Elsa, can I ask you something?" Ariana answered her with a question. "Sure." "Did you tell Kath everything there was to tell about your parents?" Ariana asked worriedly. "Yes." Elsa replied, looking down sheepishly. Ariana sighed. "See, I came to know something was wrong from the day she came down in the Zeta day before yesterday. She was.. different. She said she hadn't slept well and yet there was no trace of sleepiness in her eyes. She didn't even yawn once, if you noticed. So I decided something was wrong. My suspicions became stronger when she came to the waltz with a complete hot stranger who wouldn't let go of her, when she was so obviously crushing on Zack. That's when I first thought about her being brainwashed. So I invited her for a drink. I thought that if she'd been well and truly brainwashed, even alcohol wouldn't affect her. And it didn't. So I was right. I went to the Abscisus section to confirm my suspicions. I read a book on catechize and the symptoms matched correctly. So I know she's been brainwashed by the guy she came with to the waltz into gorging all the information about the Lapidoss out of you as your dad is the Crystallium Elder and he has a hand in the safety of the Lapidoss." Ariana finished, breathless with excitement. "And I told her everything." Elsa said regretfully, slapping a hand to her forehead. "I thought she was just being curious. "Don't worry, we can still prevent the information from reaching the hypnotist. All I should know is how to wake someone up from hypnotism. I was about to check it out, but Miss Morteneiz came in and gave me detention." Ariana scowled at the memory. "So I'll go do it. While you're in detention, Luke and I can go down to the library and check out the stuff." Elsa offered. "Okay.. but be careful. I've got to go. Can't be late for detention." Ariana got up to leave, leaving Elsa tingling with excitement. We'll go after lights out.. she thought to herself. Detention would definitely last longer than lights out so Miss Morteneiz would be taken care of. No one would be in the library after lights out. She would need a torch. Elsa got up to tell Luke about the plan, hoping he would agree to it. She was not interested in going to the library alone after lights out.

"C'mon in, Miss Rivers. I knew you wouldn't deny us the pleasure of your company tonight." Miss Morteneiz said as Ariana walked into the office, barely trying to conceal her scowl. "You can sit there besi-" "Rivers?" Ariana looked up at the owner of the familiar voice. It was Phillip. She brightened up a little but then quickly composed herself. Why should she feel so happy if Phillip was there? She smiled at him and walked over to the empty chair beside him. Phillip beamed. "Okay, class, before we begin our detention, I would like to say something to Miss Rivers." Miss Morteneiz huffed, annoyed at being interrupted by Phillip. "Miss Rivers, I know what you were doing in the library." Ariana froze. Surely, surely she wouldn't say it in front of all these people? "You were browsing through the Abscisus section for a book on Catechize, without the permission of a teacher." Ariana's cheeks heated up. She had never been so humiliated. The gasps of surprise and disbelief around her weren't helping. She hoped the ground would crack open and swallow her up. "But that's nothing, Miss Morteneiz!" Phillip's clear voice rang out, startling everyone. Ariana looked at him. "I do worse stuff. I go to the Abscisus section, without a teacher's permission, and browse about not only petty stuff such as Catechize, but also.. you know.." he wiggled his eyebrows knowingly, making Miss Morteneiz fume. Ariana tried to catch his eye. But he was determined not to look at her. He looked straight ahead at Miss Morteneiz, waiting for the verdict. Miss Morteneiz looked dangerous. Smoke was actually blowing out of her ears and her prince nez slipped down her long pointy nose. There were gasps again. "Shut up, Idiots!" Miss Morteneiz screamed. Phillip tried hard not to crack up. "Mr Parker.." She droned, and Phillip knew he was in big trouble. But Ariana wouldn't be able to thank him enough and so this was all worth it. But Miss Morteneiz simply sighed. "Why do I even bother." She muttered to herself, pinching the bridge of her white nose. "Do whatever you want, Phillip." She said. Phillip frowned. This wasn't in her nature. Whatever. Atleast they both were safe. Miss Morteneiz began the detention.
