Chapter 16

Zack was the first to move. He ran to their table and the other four ran towards him to stop him. But he had reached Katherine's table. He yanked Matt off the table and punched him right in the face. Katherine, as usual, looked completely oblivious. Phillip and Luke ran to Zack while Ariana and Elsa ran to Katherine. "Kath!" Elsa cried, shaking a dazed Katherine. Ariana looked at the guys. Luke, Phillip and Zack were pounding Matt together. She sighed and looked at Elsa. "Did you check how to get a person out of a trance?" "No I couldn't! Kath was missing." Ariana sighed. They were helpless. They held a dazed Katherine between them and watched the guys beat Matt to a pulp. "Why aren't they using magic?" Elsa whispered to Ariana. "This takes less effort, I guess." She whispered back. Then something very strange happened. One minute Matt was there and the other minute he wasn't. The guys fell on top of each other clumsily, making Ariana want to laugh even in this moment of crisis. Guys would always remain guys. "Where'd he go?!" A furious Zack yelled as they all got up and looked around. "Teleportation." Phillip whispered, looking over at the girls to see if they were fine. "He couldn't have gone far. You aren't allowed to teleport inside Lexington." Zack said and made for the exit but was stopped by Luke. "It's no use Zack, he would've escaped by now." He reasoned. Zack shook his head and looked at Katherine sadly. She was looking dazed, but her eyes looked beautiful. "We have to do something about her." Ariana said and made Katherine sit down at a table. "Thank god she's hypnotised. I actually thought she had ditched me. Though we weren't even dating technically." Zack sighed in relief, walking over to Katherine. "Kath.." he whispered, touching her face softly. "That bastard.." he muttered, clearly talking about Matt. All four them stood around Zack and Katherine in a semicircle. "I don't know how this will help Kath, but.." Zack leaned in, kissing Katherine on the lips. "I love you." he whispered, brushing his lips against hers. "Please Kath." Zack looked on the verge of tears. He kissed her again and suddenly leapt back. Katherine was kissing him back. She smiled softly at him. "Kath!" Elsa cried. Ariana looked on, shocked. Phillip and Luke glanced at each other, clearly not understanding anything. "Kath-" "Shh." was all Katherine said as she pulled Zack's face closer and kissed him. "I love you too, Zack." She said softly to Zack who looked dazed. "There was something wrong with me right?" Katherine asked him. "Yeah. You were brainwashed." Zack told her, making her gasp in shock. Zack pulled her into a tight hug. "You're okay now Kath. I swear you're fine. I will never let anything happen to you." He whispered into her hair, making Katherine shut her eyes in comfort. Ariana looked extremely worried though. "Um, Kath, welcome back and stuff, and I know this isn't the right time but do you, by any chance, remember wether you told Matt anything about Elsa and her parents?" Ariana asked worriedly. Katherine's eyes fluttered open. "I.. I don't know.." She stammered and pulled away from Zack, covering her face with her hands. "Oh my god.. I've been so stupid.." She muttered. "No no Kath. Hey look, it's none of your fault. You've been really brave, Kath." Ariana said, genuinely impressed with Katherine. "I'm sorry I asked you that. I'm.. I'm the idiot." Ariana said. "No you're not." Phillip said indignantly. "Without you we'd have never even known what happened to Katherine." He argued, making her smile feebly. "C'mon, let's go, Kath. What do you think about some hot chocolate? I can make some." Zack led Katherine gingerly away from the Zeta and into her room, making the other four feel like idiots. "Um, okay, so, we should go too. We have classes tomorrow." Ariana said, trying to vaporise the awkwardness. "Yeah." Elsa agreed and walked over to the Crystallium corridor but not without glancing at Luke one last time. He smiled at her, and she was glad it was dark or Luke would've seen her blush.

Luke yawned. "I'm going too." he murmured and walked off to the Auranium corridor. Ariana picked her bag up. "I gotta go too." She said to Phillip who nodded. Ariana walked a few paces and then looked back. Phillip smiled at her. She suddenly walked over to him and planted a soft kiss on his cheek, throwing him off balance. "I don't know what that was for." She said shyly and walked away, leaving Phillip dazed. She likes me.. He thought, lips twisting into a smile. She finally likes me! He skipped all the way to his room, forgetting all about his worries and concerns.
