The only thing preventing me from skipping school due to this massive hangover is my spite. Damon killed Lexi last night. Right when I was starting to trust him, he goes and pulls this shit!I think Elena's handling it okay. I don't know what's happening with Stefan, but Elena and I have to continue acting like everything is normal. It's frustrating.
"Have you even tried talking to Bonnie?" Elena asks Caroline as we enter the school grounds. Caroline met us the second we got out of the car.
As much as I love Caroline, there are more important things going on than Bonnie "stealing" her necklace.
"Nope and I won't either. She has to make the first move," Caroline says stubbornly. I don't even know why she's mad at Bonnie. She gave Bonnie the necklace. But I'm a good friend, and I'll let her feel deluded as long as she needs to.
"Maybe you should try to be the bigger person?" Elena suggests. As if Caroline would do that, ha! Believe it or not, Caroline's got at least a little pride.
"Impossible in her presence." She glares ahead.
"Why are you pissed at her anyway?" I question, slightly amused by her behavior.
"She's a thief, that's why. I gave her my necklace and she refuses to give it back to me!" Caroline answers, looking at me. "It's a matter of principle."
"Totally," I agree with the nod of my head. Elena gives a disapproving glance but says nothing other than:
"Alright. Well, we tried."
"Your turn," Caroline switches topics by looking at Elena. Elena. "Where's Stefan? Are you talking to him?"
"He's avoiding me," Elena answers vaguely. I wonder why.
"Why?" Caroline pushes.
"It's complicated," I answer for Elena. Caroline's persistent, and I'm much better at shutting down a conversation than Elena is. She gives me an appreciative smile. The bell rings informing us that we have to get to class. We've got a new history teacher. Before we could tell Caroline goodbye, she starts walking off to her class.
"About the other night—" Elena starts but I interrupt.
"I don't think now's the best time to discuss this," I interrupt. I can't believe she's actually doing this now.
"I just want to say—" she starts.
"I know, Lena," I affirm. I'd rather go to class than talk about this. "I know. Last night was...bad. Damon is bad. I get it."
She stares at my expression before sighing. "I just...don't want you getting hurt. Before what happened, you looked close. You're not becoming his friend or anything, right?"
"We were acquaintances, I guess. Had the same goals." Elena gives me a pitying look.
"I know you wanted to see the good in him," Elena says. She loops her arm around mine before leading me class. "I did too."
-------
"Good morning, everyone!" A man greets walking into the classroom. He must be the new teacher. No one responds to his greeting. "Alrighty then." He starts writing his name on the board.
