"Elenaaaa," I whine as I damn near stumble down the road. Elena's standing awkwardly in the middle of the road, blinking a few times before recognize me.
"Gabby," she says softly before smiling. I jog toward her before throwing my arms—and most of my weight—on her. She giggles and tries to not drop me.
Our giggling ceases the moment Mom and Dad's car pulls up at the end of the road.
"Try not to let it show," She whispers to me, letting out another giggle. I nod and try to look sober. We start heading towards the backseat of the car. I open the door and get in. Once we are buckled, they turn the car around and start heading home.
"Thanks for picking us up," I thank, trying to appear a little more sober than I am.
I hear Dad sigh. "We'll talk about this tomorrow," he says, refusing to take his eyes off of the road. Elena and I shrink in our seats.
Mom turns in her seat to give a small smile. "I'm glad you called us," she says. I give a small smile but Elena looks a little hesitant.
Oh well. There's no point in trying to hide my drunkness now.
I lean my head back, smiling lightly at the good feeling of riding in a car. I'm gonna get some good sleep tonight.
The car suddenly swerves, forcing me to open my eyes in time to see us smash through the wood railing. I For a moment, I feel like I'm floating before suddenly feeling the weight crash down on me.
I reflexively put my arms up to shield my face the second we land in the water. The car slowly starts to sink.
"Gabby!" Elena gasps, forcing me to look down. Water rushes up to my ankles. We're sinking—fast.
"It's okay," Dad reassures, trying to calm us. "Everything will be alright." The water is at my knees now.
"Oh God," I breathe out, my hand clenching Elena's tightly. The threat of tears sting my eyes. I gasp as the cold water reaches my shoulders at an alarmingly fast rate.
"Gabby! Hold your Breath!" Elena commands, trying to take charge. Is this going to be the end? I take a deep breath, feeling the water rush over my head the second I do.
I look at the front and see Mom and Dad holding each other's hands. They're not trying to get out. They gave up.
This really is the end...
I gasp for air as I quickly sit up, pressing my hand against my chest. It was just a dream, I reassure myself. No, it was a nightmare.
I wipe away my tears, steeling my will before letting out shaky breaths until they even out.
I crawl out the covers and check the time. 3:00a.m. Why did I have that dream? Why now? I take soft steps to Elena's room so I won't wake anyone else up.
I walk towards her bed. "Elena!" I whisper, shaking her lightly. She immediately wakes up, blinking a lot.
"Gabby?" She mumbles, rubbing her eyes, "What is it?"
"I had a nightmare. About the...you know." I reply. She nods her head in understanding.
"Why now?" She mumbles, sliding back into her bed before patting the spot beside her. I smile before hopping in the bed.
"It might be because of the car wreck," I suggest, lying down on the pillows "Or Stefan."
"Yeah...maybe," she agrees, letting out a yawn as she closes her eyes.
