Chapter 8
(Darryl’s POV)
~The Following Weekend~
I was excited to meet the rest of my family, especially my little siblings. “You excited to meet Grandma Christina?” I asked Keith who was in the back seat of Chase’s Lexus. He nodded his head. Keith and mom talked a few times on the phone. I could tell he already loved her just like I did. “So are you gonna tell her or do I have to?” I asked Chase who was focused on the road. “Tell who what?” he asked.
“Tell mom that you’re in love with her, duh?” He laughed keeping a smirk on his face afterwards. We finally caught up to the highway traffic. Dammit. “What would make you think that I’m in love with your mother?” Chase asked.
“A lot! Starting with, every time you get an opportunity to see her you dress all spiffy and sexy like. Who you gotta impress? Me and Keith see you all the time.”
“Alllll the tiiiiiime,” Keith injected. I laughed giving him a low five from my passenger seat.
“Look. Me and you’re mother are just friends. Best friends. That’s it.”
“Yeah, well that’s not what you’re mother told me,” I said with a grin folding my arms over my chest.
Would you believe me if I said I'm in love? Baby, I want you to want me
Would you believe me if I said I'm in love? Baby, I want ya
And we are we are we are, Got me up all night
And we are we are we are, All I'm singin' is love songs
J. Cole’s Power Trip rang as Chase’s ringtone as he fumbled to find his in his pants pockets. I could have sworn his ringtone was Bitches Love Me by Wayne. He looked at me flustered. “Hello?” he answered. With the way he looked at me trying to hide his smile, I knew he was talking to her. “Yeah, we’re in a little traffic jam. We’ll be there thirty minutes tops. He smiled, but not at me. He was smiling at whatever she was saying. She couldn’t have been saying much. Look at the way he was smiling and blushing. His face was flushing with red. “Yeah, she’s right here,” he said glancing at me smiling. “No, we’re not gonna ditch you. Relax, we’re on our way silly,” he laughed. “Alright… okay… bye.” He ended the call and avoided eye contact. “Mmhmm,” I hummed.
“What?” he asked.
“Would you believe me if I said I’m in love? Baby! I want you to want me!” I sang. “Personalized ringtone for Christina huh?” I said with a grin. “What are you talking about? That’s my default ringtone,” he lied. I shook my head taking out my phone and calling chase from speed dial.
I'm on that good kush and alcohol. I got some down bitches I can call.
I don't know what I would do without y'all. Imma ball 'til the day I fall (ball, ball, ball, ball)
Yeah, long as my bitches love me
Really? Sounds personal to me,” I teased hanging up on him which stopped the ringing in his pocket. Traffic was letting up. We were almost off the highway. “Which brings me back to my opening question; are you gonna tell her or do I have to?” I asked with a devious smirk and a raised eyebrow. “Look. Let’s say I was in love with your mom. Chances are it’ll never happen. She’s married. She has her own little family. You came into her life and she’s finally happy. I’ll just complicate things. She wouldn’t have time for me anyhow. If I was in love with her. But I’m not so we’re good.” I laughed. Denial was such a funny thing. “And what did my mother tell you?” he asked with a scrunched up face. “Oh nothing. Obviously it’s not true so it doesn’t matter,” I said theatrically while smiling at Keith in the back seat.”
