~Chapter 15~

(Ron’s POV)

Knock! Knock! Knock!  I finally knocked after ringing the doorbell twice. I was getting a little agitated by standing there. I know someone was home. There were two cars parked in the driveway. One I knew for a fact was Chase’s, which was strange because I was sure Chase and Keith hated each other. I knocked one more time. Knock! Kno— “Hey! Ron, what’s up man? How you doin?” Keith asked me opening the door. I looked at him strangely. He was wet. He had dry clothes on but all of his skin was wet. “Hey,” I asked stretching to get a peep on the inside of the house.

“What’s going on? What are you doing here?” he asked me with a smile.

“Why are you acting like that?”

“Like what?” he asked smiling.

“Like that. You’re being nice,” I said bluntly. He began laughing and pointing at me. “Oh, that’s a good one! Naw man, I was just in the shower. You know.”

“Right…” He looked at me and I kept my eyes on him. “Are the kids here?” I asked.

“Kids? No, they left with Vanessa. Kobe’s Vanessa.”

“Oh, did Darryl go along? I tried calling her—”

“Darryl? She’s here. You see Vanessa, Kobe’s Vanessa; she picked the kids up from here.”

“Ahh, got you,” I said nodding. I looked everywhere else but at Kenneth. “So can I come in?” I asked him.

“Of course man! Step on in. Mi casa es su casa bruh!” he said. I stepped in and looked around the house. I noticed a heel at the bottom of the steps. “Darryl’s out back in the pool,” he said.

“Thank you,” I said making my way to the back. I spotted Darryl lounging in an inflatable pool chair with her bathing suit on. “Woah!” I exclaimed nearly tripping. I looked down and found the pair to the shoe by the step. I picked it up and walked over to her. “Darryl,” I called her. She pushed her shades up and glared at me. “Hey daddy!” she said surprised. “What are you doing here?” she asked.

“Well I thought we had plans to go out today. You didn’t get my phone call?” I asked. Kenneth walked in on our conversation. “No daddy, my phone is upstairs.”

“Mm, and you didn’t hear me knocking and ringing the doorbell from out here?” She shook her head no. Liar. “Yeah man, we were out here enjoying some sun. It’s kind of hard to hear from back here.”

“I thought you said you were in the shower,” I said looking at Darryl who showed a slight expression of panic.

“Man, you know you gotta shower before you get in, in the pool. I had just my feet in at first, you know, testing the water.”
