Chapter 11

(Vanessa’s POV)

I looked at her laid out all disproportioned on the bed. Swat! “Owww!” she groaned tossing over to look at me. I was laughing at her reaction. “Did you just smack my butt?” she asked in a sleepy voice.

“I didn’t know you snored,” I said laughing.

“Ma, lemme alone! I’m tired!” she groaned. I grabbed her ankles and dragged her almost off the bed messing up all her sheets. “Darryl wake up!” I yelled laughing.

“You too old for all that!” she yelled getting under the covers.

“Look, you said you wanted to see LA and go shopping so we’re going to Malibu for some mommy/daughter time,” I said yanking her comforter off of her. “You got one hour to be up dressed and ready!” I sassed.

“What about Keith?” she asked.

“They’re already gone! They gave me less of a hassle than you are right now!” I shook my head. She was such a big kid. Lord, I wonder what them teenage years were like. “Keith’s gone? Gone where?”

“I sent him with Ron Kenneth and the kids.”

“You sent them with Kenneth? Wasn’t he opposed to me staying here?” I sucked my teeth. “Maybe at first, but actually it was his idea to take the kids out. He wanted to spend some time with Keith especially.”

“Keith?” she asked. I nodded. “Now get up! One hour and I’m going with or without you.”

I went to my room and laid on my bed playing with my phone in boredom like a adolescent.

And weeeee stay on the froooont line

Yeah but we’re stiiiiill here after the boooomb drops

My phone rang. I loved Tamar Braxton’s new song! Baby girl was working it with her bad self! “Hey girl. Wassup?” I answered to Evelyn’s call. “Hey you, watchu doin?” she asked.

“Oh nothing waiting on Darryl to get ready. We’re spending the day out Malibu, wanna come?” I offered.

“Actually I can’t I’m kinda busy today.”

“Okay, that’s cool maybe next time.”

“Definitely. Listen though, I’ve been meaning to talk to you.”

“Aboooout?” I asked laying on my tummy with my face in my pillow.

“Nothing too serious. How are you and Kenny doing?” she asked. That’s funny. Why was she asking about me and Kenny? The last time she did that was when me and Kenny were seconds away from getting a divorce. “He’s actually out with Darryl’s dad and the kids.”

“Mmhmm. Darryl’s dad. Which one is that again?” she teased.

“Shut up! You know Ron. The tall muscular chocolate one who looks like an ex con gone Christian.”

“Ohhhh! Right right,” she said, “Girl he is fine! Why’d you give that up?”

“I never had him to give him up. It’s a long story. We were never meant to be from the start.” I said finally hearing Darryl turn he shower water on. “Mhmm. So what about you and Chase?” Evelyn asked snapping back into focus of our conversation. “What about us?” I asked.

“Ya’ll see pretty…meant to be, don’tyou think?” I laughed. She sounded like she was plotting and scheming something. Jesus Christ, what was she up to this time? “No, me and Chase are just friends. Trust me.”
