~Chapter 19~

(Kenneth’s POV)

I don’t know what I was thinking. One minute I’m filing for divorce and falling for Darryl, and then the next Darryl is getting on my last nerve and the only person I want is my Vanessa. I’m an idiot. I deserve the idiot award of the year. It wasn’t Darryl that I wanted. I just wanted to spend time with my son. I don’t need Darryl to do that. She was becoming a handful. It was like having another daughter. The time we spent together made me realize how immature she was. She eats up all the food, runs up the phone bill, and the only time she wants to spend time together is if I’m taking her out to eat, shopping, or bonding with Keith. It was annoying. The sex wasn’t even great anymore. There was no connection there like there is with me and Nessa. For once in my life, I’m disgusted with myself. The fact that I was the father of my wife’s daughter’s son, and am continuing my sexual relationship with her, even after finding out who she was ate me up inside. I had to tell someone. There was no one who I could trust except Kobe. I knocked on his door repeatedly with aggression in my fist. “Man, you crazy?” Kobe yelled as he swung the door open. I barged in his house as if it were my room. I paced back and forth nervously. “Man, I fucked up Kobe. I fucked up real bad yo.”

“Yeah…HEY KOBE! HOW ARE YOU? Oh Kenny, what a surprise! Come on in!” Kobe spazzed at me.

“Dawg, I don’t got time for that! Did you hear me? I fucked up!” I shouted continuing to pace back and forth. Kobe shut the door and exhaled out of frustration probably thinking I was going on a pointless rant, but this was real. “How did you fuck up Kenneth?” he asked me nonchalantly.

“Bruh! Take me seriously! This ain’t no joke Kob, I fucked up bad mane!”

“Okay, if you keep yelling in my house I’m putting you out. Now can you calmly tell me how you fucked up? Is it Vanessa?”

“Yes! …no. …I mean kinda—”

“Well is it yes or no?” Kobe asked frustrated. I finally sat down. My legs were bouncing up and down like I was having a sugar rush or something. “Darryl bruh,” I finally said.

“Darrell? The water boy?”

“No! Darryl! Nessa’s daughter!”

“Oh! That fine ass red bone with the fat ass at your crib?” I shot him two different looks all at once. One was a look of confusion. Umm, I know you have a wife so the hell is you fantasizing about Darryl for? The second was a defensive look. The fact that he thought those things of her angered me. She’s not important right now, I thought.  “What about her Kenny?” he asked irritated as if he asked me more than once.

“I knew her before.”

“What do you mean before?”

“I knew her way before I knew she was Vanessa’s kid.  About two or three years before.”

“Okay…so? How’d you meet her?” Kobe asked finally sitting down.

“Remember that Miami game we played? The one that everyone bashed me for cuz I was some shit the entire game?”

Do I? Man everyone was pissed! ‘Some shit’ is an understatement. You were a big fat pile of hot stool bruh!” he laughed after saying that in his country bama voice.

“That wasn’t funny man. The truth is, I let ya’ll believe whatever it is ya’ll wanted to. The truth of the matter is I was going through a lot of stuff at home with Vanessa, and that night was the icing on the cake for me. So after the game…  I hit the bar.”

“Wait—what was going on with you and Vanessa?”

I exhaled. “A lot man. You’re my best friend and all, but there are some things even you don’t know about me.”
