*Boom*
People scream everywhere.
I cover my ears as another crash sounds.
I'm running
I'm... running?
"Angel!" I look up.
Charlie's here.
Charlie's here.
Charlie's... here...
Charlie's... here?
Wait... what?
"Angel come on! We have to go!"
A gunshot sounds and I flinch.
"Angel!" She cries, reaching out to me.
She's so far away.
"We have to go." I feel someone tug at my arm.
I look down.
I blink.
I blink again.
"Lucifer?"
"Yeah, tis me," He grumbles, "Now let's get the fuck out of here."
He pulls me by my arm, using his wings to protect and propel us forward.
"Am I dreaming?" I ask in a daze. This was not part of the plan- none of this was.
"Fuck, I hope not." The King flings us around a corner and right past Husk's cell.
Husk's cell.
"WAIT!" I screech, "We need to get Husk!"
Lucifer tugs me along, "We got him, don't worry."
"We!?" I ask hysterically, "Who's we!?"
"Alastor and Charlie, that's who!" Lucifer snaps, "Now will you shut up while I find a way out of this place!"
I can't believe it, I'm actually saved... wait.
"What about Valentino?"
"I dunno. Sera came to her senses or some—" he dodges a piece of flying rock, "—shit. She used angelic weapons on him. I don't know. I came to get you you ungrateful shit."
I deadpan and glare at the king who only shrugs.
We make it out just in time to see the building structure give one last groan before it crashes: One floor after another.
I gape at the fallen building then the people around me. "I can't- is this real?"
Charlie comes up to me, smiling in relief. "Yes, yes it's all real. You're safe. Angel."
I'm smiling so much I never realized I started crying until she hugged me and my tears fall onto her coat.
"What about Husk?" I ask worriedly.
Charlie sighs.
"He's being taken care of. We're not quite sure how well he's doing but we know he'll live. All thanks to you for helping him while you stayed." She gives my shoulder a squeeze and the hugs me again. This time, Niffty, Cherri Bomb, Arackniss, Octavia, Rosie, and I get wrapped up in a group hug. Alastor and Lucifer stand off to the side, warily watching for anyone else who steps out of the building.
Farther than that, Neveah stands by herself, crying.
I pry my way away from the group and head over to her.
"Neveah?"
She looks up, hiccuping, before quickly wiping her tears.
"Neveah, what's wrong?"
"Velvette—hiccup—Vox, a-and Keith-hiccup-they didn't—" She sobs, falling into my arms. I'm crying again. "I d-don't know wh—hiccup—ere they are! They should b-be here! They should've came back! Demons don't die!"
"I-I... I don't know, Neveah." I hug her tight and we sink to the ground.
We sit there for who knows how long, seconds, minutes, hours? All I know is that at one point, I was taken to the hospital to see Husk.
Now, I sit beside him as he lies in a bed. I hold his hand, staring blankly at the walls surrounding us; looking from them to the mechanisms hooked up to him.
I sigh, intertwining my fingers with his. I kiss his hand gently. "I love you, Husk. I don't think I ever got to tell you that." I sniffle.
———
Hours later, a flicker of life stirs within Husk. It begins with a delicate twitch of his fingers, almost imperceptible at first, but soon they curl around my hand with a gentle grip—warmth flooding my heart. Then, his eyes slowly flutter open, revealing depths of emotion as they lock onto mine. In that moment, an overwhelming wave of relief washes over me, and tears cascade down my cheeks once more, a mix of joy and hope flooding through every fiber of my being.
He wraps his arms around me, holding me close as I tremble with sobs, my tears soaking into the fabric of his shirt. His voice, low and soothing, brushes against my ear like a soft breeze. "I love you, Angel. I promise I would never have left you."
I let out a soft, bitter laugh, my voice shaky. "It certainly felt that way."
He chuckles, a warm sound that vibrates against me. "I didn't mean for it to come across that way, I swear."
"I know, I just-" I sigh. "I missed seeing you every day. Seeing you healthy. I hate what Valentino did to you, Husk! It's not fair! I want him to suffer but there's nothing more we can do with him, I suppose."
Husk brushes a hand over my face, "I'm here now, and he's not. Let's just focus on that. I'm angry too, but there's nothing we can do now."
I sigh again, "I know. And that's what I hate."
"Just know I love you. Even when it feels like we don't have any time left."
"I feel like I never got any time with you in the first place!" I cry, holding him closer. "There's just never enough time."
"Angel?" Husk looks me straight in the eyes, longing and determination in his gaze.
"Yes?"
He holds my hands. "I love you. No matter how much time we get with each other I will always love you."
I smile, wiping away my tears. "And I you. Husk, I will always love you, now and forever, no matter how much time we have together."
