Chapter 52

Happy Birthday to me! It's 29th August my birthday. To celebrate, I wanted to give you a gift that’s been a long time coming. I know you've all been so patient waiting for the next part of Selfish Desire and what better day than today to finally share it with you?

I know it's been a while. Life got in the way, but I never forgot about stories or all of you who have been so supportive. As a thank you for your incredible patience, I'm so excited to finally share a new chapter with you. I hope you enjoy getting back into this world as much as I have..

"What were you thinking, Arjun? Look at you, you're soaked to the bone!" Kavya exclaimed, her voice a mix of frustration and concern. She held a towel, her hands moving quickly to wipe the raindrops from his hair. He stood there, a wide, goofy grin on his face after changing into fresh clothes, oblivious to her scolding.

"I'm fine, Kavya," he said, the smile never leaving his lips. "It was just a little rain."

"A little rain? You look like you've swum in a river! Couldn't you have waited for a few minutes for the rain to slow down? Or called me?" she continued, her hands moving from his hair to his shoulders, wiping away the water droplets.

Before she could say another word, Arjun swept her into his arms, lifting her as if she weighed nothing. He held her close, burying his face in her neck. "Arjun, put me down! You're all wet,"

She protested, but her voice lacked conviction. He carried her to the bed and gently placed her down, then lay beside her, pulling her close.

He began to unbutton her nightie, and Kavya's heart fluttered. She thought he was being romantic and was about to give in when he surprised her. He didn't continue with the buttons. Instead, he stopped at her baby bump, which he started stroking gently and lovingly. His touch was soft and reverent, a stark contrast to his usual playful demeanour. He talked to her belly and kissed it, showering the baby with love.

"What's wrong, Arjun? What happened?" she asked, her voice hushed with surprise.

"I saw a family on a scooter on my way back," he said, his eyes filled with a faraway look. "They were completely drenched, but they were laughing and enjoying the rain. It was beautiful, Kavya. I couldn't help but think that soon, we'll be a family too, and we'll have moments like that."

Kavya watched him, a wave of amusement and love washing over her. This was the same man who, just a few months ago, was the life of every party, a notorious playboy who lived for the thrill of the moment. He was the kind of man who would rather spend his Friday night at a club than at home, a "brat" who charmed his way out of any trouble. She remembered countless nights she spent worrying about him, wondering if he would ever settle down. And now, here he was, completely invested in his future family, his face a picture of pure, unadulterated love.

Arjun continued to share his dreams with her, his voice a soft murmur in the quiet room. He spoke of picnics in the park, of teaching their child to ride a bike, of reading bedtime stories, and of a lifetime of love and laughter. He was no longer a brat; he was a man dreaming of his future family, and in that moment, Kavya knew she couldn't have asked for a better partner.

As he spoke, she quietly prayed that this happiness would never fade, that she would always be able to share in his dreams, and that their little family would always be filled with the same love and joy that filled her heart at that very moment.

Kavya stumbled backwards, her hand burning from the chemical spray. The attacker’s shove had caught her off balance. She was a woman carrying two lives, and her body, no longer her own, twisted in a desperate, panicked attempt to regain her footing. It was a useless effort. Her feet slid on the slick concrete floor, and she was falling.
