It was a slow ride home that night. John and Victoria were already sleeping at the back of the car; their heads were side by side. Samuel was talking to the chief about everything under the sun, from politics to oil prices. After some time while they were driving, Samuel woke John and Victoria up. He asked them if they wanted something to eat. It was already late at the time. They gladly said yes. They stopped over by Frits and Fries; a small burger stand, by the side of the road. As they were eating, they started talking again. It was a friendly chatter that night. Then they were back on the road again.

On the highway, as their car was slowly transversing the road they were hit by a skidding van. Then Chief Javier opened his sirens and started to follow the van, which appeared to belong to the mental institute. When Chief Javier saw that the other police cars were following it, he just didn’t mind it and sped away from the road. John awoke and looked behind him, and saw the van burning ablaze, and the police were pulling the doctors outside the van.

“Don’t worry about that. They will take care of it. Now lets take you home” chief Javier said.

As the small scene on the road was over, everyone in the car calmed down and fell asleep, while Samuel continued chatting with Chief Javier. At home, John, Victoria and Samuel waved goodbye. The chief then opened his window and said:

“You all be careful. Your bunch really has a taste for danger. If you need some protection, just call me” he said.

“We will call you officer Javier when we need you. Thanks for the ride” Samuel said.

As the chief’s car went farther away into the veil of night, John’s thoughts kept revolving around. He was wondering if, he will ever finish his time machine. Then suddenly, they heard multiple gun shots. After that, John saw chief Javier’s car hitting an electric pole line. His car was burning. Then he saw a man, in a hospital gown holding a pistol. When the man saw John, he started shooting at him. John quickly ran out of the way. Presence of mind went into Samuel and Victoria, so they fell to the ground to avoid open fire. When John heard the gunner’s gun clicking, he then ran to the man. The man suddenly ran away. They three of them went to chief Javier’s car. They saw the mirror arrayed with bullet holes, cracks and indents. Chief Javier was bleeding. Samuel quickly pulled Javier out of the car, as the car caught on fire.

“Quickly John, call an ambulance” Samuel said.

“I am on it” Victoria replied as she starts texting on her phone.

As Samuel and John were pulling Chief Javier farther and farther away from the burning car, the car suddenly exploded. Then they asked Chief Javier what happened.

“The guy was the patient inside the van that hit us a few moments ago” the chief said as he stammered.

“Did you see the man’s face?” John asked.

“Yes, it was the man who we captured a while ago. I forgot his name” the chief answered as he coughed a hard cough.

“The man was Paul” John said.

“Hold everything boys, I got some gauze strip for his gun shot wounds” Samuel said as he rushed to the chief and wrapped his chest with the gauze strip. After some time an ambulance has arrived, and picked up Chief Javier. Everyone was dumbfounded at what had just happened. Victoria and Samuel were talking to the paramedics about the chief. The paramedics said that Chief Javier was not in a fatal condition and had nothing to worry about, because no organs were harmed, and it was only a laceration wound. John was looking for clues on the ground, where he saw Paul standing a few minutes ago.
