(A/n): Sorry I was gone for ages. Like I said in the community post, we will discuss it later. But for the record--This chapter took me AGES to finish. It's over 20k words!! Also, just realized that number1procrasinator left their account. If you didn't know who that was, they were someone who made some sick fanarts for this book :). They were one of many people who read this book that actually made me want to keep going. So, RIP them :(. Anyways, on with the show-

Papa Wolf was a lot of things.
He was a werewolf first and foremost.
He was easily irritated.
He was cruel.
He was evil.
He was a smoker.
He was a killer.
He was a protector.
He was a lover.
He is a father.
But, most importantly..Papa Wolf was-
"Papa Wolf," Cassie called. Voice stern. Unforgiving, this time, "I said to continue." Papa Wolf blinked the glaze away from his eyes, letting out a small 'hah' that was trying to be a laugh but came out as a weak breath instead.
"Ah..right. Sorry, Cass, I was..I was just thinking of things-" "I don't care what you were thinking of. Just continue your damn story so I can get you and that little girl out of here."
"So cold..Cassie. Did I really freak you out that bad? Come on now. Give me a chance to wow you with the rest of the story!" Papa Wolf attempted to joke.
Cassandra didn't laugh.
Cassandra didn't smile.
And, for some reason, that made Papa Wolfs words taste bitter in his own mouth.
Like he was the one being laughed at even though Cassie wasn't saying anything. Still, he did his best to keep his infamous fanged grin. And continued.
"She left. After wanting to steal from the convenience store instead of a bank she left. Stepped back into the light, away from the shadows I was slinking in, and across the street. I watched her dodge cars as they honked at her from running in the middle of the road,"
Papa said with a shrug of the shoulders,
"I watched her bump into people once she made it to the other side of said road. I watched her stumble and dip her head in apology toward them before continuing her trek. Nobody..Nobody-Not a single solitary soul stopped to go, 'What is this child doing out here all by herself?'. 'Where's her Mommy? Where's her Daddy?'. 'Why are her little feet all black and dirty?'. Maybe it's because she was a werewolf. Maybe it was because she looked homeless. I didn't think much of it at the time. But now that I've spent time with her...I don't think I will ever forget it."
Cassie blinked, staring at Papa Wolf when he paused after that sentence. Something shifted in his face then at the memory he was recalling. Irritation? Anger? Regardless of what it was, he wasn't pleased in the slightest. That much was clear.
It didn't stay long though. Eventually, Papa Wolfs expression went right back to normal. And so, he continued with his tale.
"Now...'m not sure what happened while she was in that convenience store. She was gone for 25 minutes and 15 seconds. I began counting the moment she entered threw the double doors. But, once my counting had hit 25 minutes and 16.25 seconds--My girl came bolting out the doors. Screamin'. Cryin'. Kickin'. She had tears streaming down her face and was holding her ankle, which was swollen and bruised,"
Papa Wolf looked down at his hands, claws specifically catching his eye. Watching them twitch. Glaring down like they had something on them. But they were clean. They've been clean since he got here and Cassie forced him to take a bath.
What could Papa Wolf be seeing on them?
"I don't remember how I felt in that moment," Papa Wolf mumbled, "My lips parted, but I put my tongue over the cigarette so it wouldn't fall out of my mouth. I didn't move. When she caught sight of me, she reached her little arms out screaming as loud as she possibly could. I didn't move. Some big ol' guy came rushing out, screaming profanities. Spitting insults. He said--"
