The morning light poured through the curtains in soft, golden beams, casting a calm, ethereal glow across the room. Jennie stirred, slowly waking, and a feeling of warmth pressed against her side. She froze for a moment, unsure if she was dreaming or if last night had truly happened.
She turned, just enough to glance at the figure beside her — it was Jisoo, curled up next to her, her hair disheveled, her face peaceful in sleep.
Jennie felt her heart race, her breath catching in her throat. This is real, she thought, her fingers brushing lightly over the sheets, as if afraid she might disturb the beautiful reality she found herself in.
For a moment, she let herself be lost in the quiet intimacy of the moment, the soft rhythm of Jisoo's breathing, the warmth of their shared space. The reality of what had happened the night before, when they confessed their love, still felt surreal.
How had they come to this?
How had they finally crossed that invisible line, the one that had kept them so separate for so long?
But as the soft light filled the room and the world beyond her door called her back to reality, Jennie couldn't help but feel the weight of the situation pressing down on her.
After a few moments of indecision, Jennie gently slipped out of bed, careful not to wake Jisoo. She looked back once more, her heart thudding in her chest, before she padded quietly to the bathroom to prepare for the day ahead.

At breakfast, Jennie tried to hide the way her mind kept drifting back to Jisoo. The conversation at the table felt distant, like it was happening in another world. Her parents sat across from her, speaking in their usual tones about business, social obligations, and upcoming events. Her father, ever the patriarch, glanced up over his cup of tea with a cool, discerning gaze.
"Jennie," he said, his voice steady. "There's a young man coming by today. His family is well-established. I think you'll like him."
Jennie's grip on her teacup tightened. She looked up, forcing a smile. "I'm sure he'll be charming, Father."
Her father nodded, as though he had said nothing out of the ordinary. "His name is Seojin. His father and I have been close for years. You'll meet him soon."
Jennie's stomach turned. She'd met suitor after suitor, each one more polite than the last, each one leaving her more distant from the idea of love. They were all just faceless names to her. None of them are jisoo, she thought bitterly.
But she said nothing, her face perfectly composed, her voice polite and distant as she replied, "I'll look forward to it."
—
After breakfast, Jennie found herself walking aimlessly through the grand halls of the mansion. Her thoughts kept drifting back to Jisoo.
She couldn't help it. The night they shared their love, the words they exchanged, it was all too much to take in.
What was she supposed to do with this feeling?
What was they supposed to do?
She turned the corner, her eyes landing on Jisoo, who was standing by the window, dusting off the curtains. Jisoo's presence always had a way of calming Jennie, but today, something in her demeanor, the way her shoulders were slightly hunched, the way her eyes avoided Jennie's — made Jennie pause.
"Jisoo," Jennie called, her voice soft, hesitant.
Jisoo turned, startled, as if she had been lost in thought. Her eyes softened when they landed on Jennie, but there was something unreadable in her expression. She placed the duster down on the table and took a step toward Jennie, her eyes full of something that felt almost like guilt.
