Jealous

The air in their shared apartment was thick with unspoken words, a tangible weight that pressed down on the silence Jennie hated. She watched Jisoo, perched on the edge of the sofa, scrolling through her phone, her face a mask of calm, as always. It was the same calm that both endeared her to Jennie and drove her to the brink of madness.

"Are you even listening to me?" Jennie's voice, sharp with a frustration that had been simmering for days, cut through the quiet.

Jisoo lowered her phone, her dark eyes meeting Jennie's. There was no flicker of annoyance, no hint of the storm brewing beneath Jennie's surface. "Of course, jendeuk. I'm always listening." Her tone was even, almost placid.

"No, you're not," Jennie shot back, pushing herself off the kitchen counter and taking a step closer. "You're hearing me. There's a difference. I'm telling you, I don't feel you anymore, Jisoo. Not like before."

Jisoo sighed, a soft sound, almost inaudible. "That's not fair, Jennie. My feelings haven't changed."

"Haven't they?" Jennie scoffed, a bitter laugh escaping her lips. "Because mine have. I feel like I'm screaming into a void sometimes. Everything I feel, everything I give, it just... bounces off you." She paced, running a hand through her hair. "Like with Lisa. You remember last week, when she was all over you, joking about how you're her 'emotional support human'?"

Jisoo raised an eyebrow, a tiny, almost imperceptible twitch. "She's our friend, Jennie. She was just being playful."

"Playful?" Jennie's voice rose. "She was practically draped over you, Jisoo! And you just sat there, smiling that calm, untouchable smile. Didn't you see how she looked at you? Or how you looked at her?"

"I was being polite," Jisoo stated, her voice still perfectly level, which only fueled Jennie's fire. "You know I don't feel that way about Lisa. You know I love you."

"Do I?" Jennie challenged, stopping directly in front of her. "Because I don't feel it. I don't feel your jealousy, I don't feel your anger, I don't feel... anything from you when it matters. I'm here, practically tearing my hair out because I feel like I'm losing you, and you just sit there, impassive. It's like you don't care enough to show me you're bothered. It's like you don't care enough to fight for me." Her voice cracked with the raw emotion that always bubbled to the surface for her. "Sometimes I wonder if you even love me anymore, Jisoo."

A shadow, brief and fleeting, crossed Jisoo's eyes. It was gone before Jennie could fully grasp it, replaced by that familiar, unyielding serenity. "You know that's not true, Jennie."

"Then show me!" Jennie cried, throwing her hands up in exasperation. "Just once, drop the act, Jisoo! Show me you're human! Show me you get possessive, or angry, or even just confused! Show me you're afraid to lose me, because I'm terrified to lose you, and I feel like I'm the only one trying to keep us afloat!" The tears welled up, blurring Jisoo's perfectly composed face. "I don't need your quiet strength right now. I need your messy, chaotic love. I need to feel like I matter enough to make you feel something, anything, besides calm."

Jisoo finally stood, her movements smooth and deliberate. She reached out, her hand hovering near Jennie's cheek, but Jennie flinched away. The gesture, though gentle, felt like a cold rebuttal to Jennie's emotional outpouring.

"I do love you, Jennie," Jisoo said, her voice soft but firm. "More than you know. My love just... isn't a performance."

"It's not a performance, it's a feeling!" Jennie yelled, the tears finally overflowing and streaming down her face. "And I don't feel it! I haven't felt it in so long, I don't even remember what your love feels like anymore." She turned away, needing to escape the suffocating calm of Jisoo's presence. "I can't do this right now, Jisoo. I just... I can't."
