My feet padded against the sidewalk as I walked down the road, dripping with the on pouring rain.

I had left our little Iowa house a little more than an hour ago, being I didn't want anyone to take me where I was headed.

My eyes scanned everything that passed in between my vision and my destination while various trees danced with the wind.

After about another twenty minutes of walking, I finally came upon a large tree, just a few feet away from an old bench. My head tipped down to read the paper once more.

Big tree, next to a beaten down bench near a sidewalk.

Assuming I found the place, I pulled a tiny flashlight out of my pocket and began to make my way to the tree, reading the last words on the paper.

Look for the engraving.

Once I stood directly in front of the tree, I began to shine the light over every inch until I found what I was looking for.

The engraving.

Without a warning, my eyes flooded with tears as my right hand lifted to allow my finger tips access to the tree bark. My fingers touched the tree, moving over the engraving that somehow meant so much to me by this point.

A quiet sob escaped my lips while I fell to my knees in the grass. The rain continued to pour, resulting in me falling in mud instead of dry grass. My hands shoved the paper back inside of my jacket pocket before reaching into my other pocket to pull out my phone. With shaky hands, I pulled up the camera and snapped a photo of the words on the tree.

Heather + Corey

I choked back another sob and shook my head, finally resting myself against the tree.

My mouth opened to release a sigh when a light found its way from my feet to my face. I quickly turned to its direction to see someone walking towards me.

Scared, I jumped up, not bothering to wipe away my tears, and stood in a position where I could fight if I needed to.

Guess all those fights at school may come in handy. I thought to myself.

With a final shake of my head, I looked up to see my dad stood in front of me, looking quite angry.

Here we go.

"H-hey dad" I whispered nervously. My hand crawled up to the back of my neck and stayed there while I tried to find the courage to look up.

"Can you explain to me why you're out this late, Alex?" He asked with his teeth probably clenched together.

"Well uh. Not really... But you see I-" I started before he cut me off.

"Alex Taylor. Why are you out here?" He demanded.

I lowered my head more, if that was even possible.

"I wanted to see the tree"

"How did you even know about it?" He yelled due to the rain pouring harder and a bit louder.

"Mom always wanted me to see it" I said, my voice cracking as I sobbed some more.

He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose before starting towards me. He grabbed my hand and pulled me along with him.

I continued to cry silently until we reached the house again. My dad opened the door and shoved me inside, where I turned to look at his face.

He showed no emotion and walked past me, leaving me alone.

I wiped at my eyes again and ran up to our room where I found myself alone again.

Shutting and locking the door, I allowed the tears to continue their flow.

I reached my hand into my jacket and pulled out my phone, scrolling through my contacts once I unlocked the screen.

When my eyes saw the name I was searching for, my thumb touched it, resulting in my phone dialing the number.

I put the phone to my ear and awaited the voice that eventually answered after a few rings.

"Alex?"

I sighed and rubbed my wet eyes.

"Anne, I need a favor"
