I sat at home, alone, crying.
I turned him down, and really all I wanted was to go back. What was wrong with me?
My shaky hands grabbed my phone and I clicked on the contact name of Sid.
"I'm so sorry!" I sobbed once he answered the phone.
"Hey, no. Alex, its okay, I understand." I heard shouts from the background, shouts of my name. I guess they heard Sid talking to me.
"I've messed it all up, haven't I?"
"No, Alex. Its all okay."
"How's everyone?"
"Crazy right now. They wanna-" Before he could finish, the phone must have been taken from him.
"Alex?" I heard the familiar voice of Stephanie.
"Hey Steph" I smiled.
"Alex I need to see you. Can I meet you somewhere?"
I hesitated. "Uh, yeah sure. Where?"
"Actually can I come to your apartment?"
"If that's best, then come over." I stated. We hung up after I gave her my address. Sid texted me a few times asking if I knew why Stephanie ran out of the house, but I only told him that I didn't know.
No more than ten minutes later, a knock sounded on my apartment door. Once I opened the door, there stood Stephanie.
"Steph?" I asked. She walked into my apartment when I opened the door wide enough for her to get through.
She embraced me in a much needed hug once I had closed the door.
"Hey Alex."
We walked to sit on the couch before she began talking.
"Your dad has been bugging Sid ever since he said he saw you not too long ago." She laughed. I smiled and fiddled with my thumbs.
"Is this about him or..?" I trailed off.
"No," she shook her head. "I won't stress you with that. I need your help."
I nodded to encourage her to continue.
"Your three step siblings need a babysitter. The guys will most likely be on tour not too long from today, and I don't think I can handle them on my own. I understand if you don't want to, though. I just.. They're so active and-" I cut her off before she could continue.
"I'll help you, Steph. Can I meet them?"
She smiled. "Do you want me to bring them here, or do you wanna try to face everyone?"
"I'm gonna have to at some point." I sighed.
With that, we left to go to my old home.
~
"Are you sure?" Stephanie asked when we pulled up.
I took a deep breath and nodded as I opened the door and walked to the familiar porch with Stephanie.
"Alright, well I'm sure I'm gonna faint, so put 911 on speed dial?"
"You're gonna be fine, Alex."
"Is that Alex?!" We heard from inside the house. I jumped at the sudden noise before a body came flying out the front door, falling on me.
"Woah!" I exclaimed, feeling arms wrap around me.
"Oh, how I've missed you, kiddo."
"Chris? You're more hyper than I remember."
"Well you're back, so.."
I smiled and stood up, giving Chris a proper hug.
"Alex!"
"Oh no." I groaned as four other familiar faces came running out the door. In a second, I was in a sandwich-group hug consisting of me, Shawn, Mick, Joey, and Craig. "Alright why's everyone sweaty?"
"Uh.." Joey trailed.
"We were kinda tormenting your dads house." Craig spoke up.
"You? I've never heard you speak very much, and now you're tearing down the house? Good for you." I laughed, hugging them all individually. "Wait, so where's my dad?"
Everybody stood awkwardly around me. In realization, I muttered an 'oh.'
"So I messed things up more than I'd initially thought, huh?" I asked, not expecting an answer as tears pooled in my eyes.
"No, he'll be back soon, he just needs.. Time." Sid assured from the doorway next to Jim.
"Yeah, I needed 'time' too and look where that got me."
"Hey, no. Don't put this on yourself." Shawn demanded. "Come inside, he'll be excited when he sees you're here, whether he shows it or not."
They all led me into the familiar house, and the simple sight of it broke my wall of tears, allowing them to spill.
"I'm so sorry." I cried. "Gosh, you guys must think I'm a mess right now."
"Nah, we understand the emotions, kid." Jim comforted.
I know one person who won't.
