Chapter 12: I Do’s
I woke up the next morning in a very good mood. I skipped down the stairs and into the kitchen.
“Woah somebody’s in a good mood.” Teddy said as he walked into the kitchen.
“Yep!” I chirped.
“Stop yelling and being so loud jeez. I’m tired and my head hurts.”
“You sound like you have a hangover.” I pointed out. Max walked into the kitchen at that moment looking nervous.
“woah buddy what happened to you. ‘You look as if you’ve seen a ghost, some wine and say what’s going on.’” I sang, quoting Les Mis.
“’A ghost you say a ghost maybe she was just like a ghost to me.’” Max sang quoting the next line in the song from the tragic musical. “No umm I have a date with Tayah tonight.”
“Woah woah woah. Who’s Tayah and why haven’t I heard of this mysterious woman before?” I said.
“Tayah is a girl I met and we have gone out on a few dates.” Max said. I nodded.
“Tell me the deets later.” I said then bounded up the stairs. I grabbed a black tank top and a pair of skinny jeans. I walked down the stairs and made Max tell me all the details about his date with Tayah. They were going to a fancy restaurant called Fantaisie Restaurante. It was some French restaurant. He was picking her up at 6:30.
When Max left for his date he was shaky and nervous the whole time. Teddy ad I decided to get Chinese food from a small Chinese food restaurant called Spicy King. We got takeout. We ended up with a takeaway box with fried rice, orange chicken, mandarin chicken, and egg rolls. We drove home and ate the food with our cheap chopsticks. I turned on the TV and scrolled through the channels. I stopped on That 70’s Show and Teddy and I watched intently. I popped a piece of chicken into my mouth with the chopsticks. Teddy put his food down and walked upstairs to his room to call Allie. I put the leftover Chinese food in the fridge knowing Max would be hungry when he got back from his date.
I heard the front door creak open. I grabbed the rolling pin that was sitting on the counter in the kitchen. I held it like a baseball bat and walked towards the front door. Max was standing there with some girl. She was beautiful. She had long light brown hair that went to her mid back, tan skin, a small figure, and beautiful hazel eyes. I let my arm fall to my side.
“Did you think we were murderers, cricket?” he asked. I laughed at the nickname. He calls me Cricket because when I was a kid I would always try to imitate the crickets. “Oh umm Cricket, this is Tayah.” He introduced. I held my hand out. We shook hands.
“Hi im Lennie.” I said.
“I’ve heard a lot about you Len.” She said with a smile.
“Len can we talk to you?” Max said in all seriousness. I nodded. All three of us walked into the living room. Max and Tayah sat on the couch across from me.
“Well you see, Tayah and I have actually been dating for two years.” Max said. My eyes bulged and my mouth fell open. “And the reason I was so nervous about tonight was because I proposed.” He said slowly. I blinked a few times before jumping up and down. I ran to Max and gave him a huge hug.
“Congratulations Maxwell!” I squealed. He chuckled. I then pulled Tayah into a tight hug.
“Congrats to you too.” I said. She smiled and said “Thanks. You’re very welcoming.” She laughed. I nodded. We told Teddy the news. He was just as excited as I was.
The last two months have been amazing. My life couldn’t get any better. Caleb was an amazing boyfriend. Tayah was awesome. She was super funny and sweet. Everything was going really well. Prom was next week and everyone was being asked in extravagant ways. Im assuming im going with Caleb but he hasn’t officially asked me yet.
Caleb was at my house and we were playing Scrabble. He was winning so far. I got up to go get us some snacks. I grabbed a few sodas and made microwave popcorn. I carried the snacks up to my room. When I got there Caleb wasn’t in there. I set the snacks down by our game and sat down to play a word. I looked down at the letters that were on the little bench. I had a P and R an O and an M. All the other letters were gone. What? Caleb stole my other letters! Wait! P-R-O-M! Caleb is asking me to prom!!!!!!!!!!!
“Caleb!” I yelled. He walked into my room with a bouquet of roses and a box of chocolates. I grinned at him and nodded my head vigorously.
“Yes!” I yelled.
“Yes?”
“Yes! Yes! Of course!” I said and wrapped my arms around his neck. He buried his face in the crook of my neck. I’m going to prom with Caleb!! Dress shopping time!
